I've compiled a list of surviving Delaware, Lackawanna & Western RR steel suburban "Boonton" passenger coaches and combines. It is fairly complete except as noted. If any have been missed or missing data can be shared concerning cars in the list below, please post on this thread. The numbers that follow the owners are the original DL&W numbers.

What about 206, 207, 208 and 209 at Tarantula Train? I know they are DL&W cars that came to Tarantula/FW&W by way of Strasburg--whether they are Boonton line coaches, electric trailers or depowered electric power cars I know not (my grasp of the finer points of DL&W commuter equipment is not everything it should be).

So the Portland car is in Honesdale? Any details on the who, what and where?

Were the DL&W/B&M cars at Edaville Boontons? If so, the combine is a tavern on Martha's Vineyard and the coach is near Sunapee, NH.

I've decided not to include the DL&W electric m.u. cars, only the steel suburban passenger coaches even though some of the earlier Boontons were rebuilt into m.u.'s. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I believe there is a Boonton combine from Gettysburg at Middletown & Hummelstown. At least the M&H was supposed to be buying it. And I don't think the two cars at Edaville were Boontons. They were older wooden cars sheathed with steel, I think.

I know the three at IRM have been repainted but still carry the correct DL&W paint and lettering scheme as operating historical artifacts. Out of curiousity how many of the other do?

The Mid-Continent cars are properly restored as "Lackawanna" cars.

The Edaville-B&M-DL&W cars were early (1910-1912?)steel cars, with open platforms; they were not steel-sheathed wood cars. They had the early Pullman Company standing-seam steel roof. The three MU club cars that were in service at the end of DL&W MU operation in 1984 were of the same type, but with closed vestibules for MU operation.

Nice list-- how about CNJ 1000-1100 series clerestory roof coaches next??

You're right - I remember seeing that car last July. I didn't get the number, though, and the car is painted in some Gettysburg RR livery of grey, blue and maroon. I think M&H may have acquired it pretty recently.

How sure are you about the ones at Wawa and Concordville? I only remember the 604 being there and have super 8 film of the place running with only the 604 and the converted boxcars. As a side note one of the trucks from 604 is now under the 410 at W&W. I would be happy to share the old films if you would like to see them.

Dear Tom,

I have copies of the W&C's records and over 100 photos of the operation, all of which show the four Boonton cars. I'm writing a history of the W&C for our journal, MILEPOST which will tell the entire W&C story. 604 was used on the excursion train dureing cold weather and the other three were acquired for an ill-fated gift shop complex; they were stored on a siding adjacent to the Concordville station; they were cut up in the late 1970s. My primary contacts were the former President/founder and a former V.P. of Operations. The W&C Boonton car information has been verified and is accurate.

I was an interim owner of the 425 combine between private owner C.A. Wiesner and Mid-Continent. It was originally acquired for a proposed trade to Steamtown NHS that fell through. Steamtown still has no Boonton combines.

As I'm sure you already know, Tom, we repainted the #603 and #571 to match the paint scheme on #410 and #581 this past summer. It was pretty cool sanding down the old W&W blue and yellow and finding "Lackawanna" underneath. Seth

I forgot about the gift shop. I was only thinking of the train operation. I am glad you are putting together a history of the W&C. Like I said earlier I have some super 8 film of the train running there. I also have some photos of #37's side tank being sandblasted and the old Pacific Lumber lettering showing through. Let me know if you (or anyone else online) are interested in those.

DL&W 615 = VRR 501
DL&W 577 = VRR 502
DL&W 551 = VRR 503
Also, at onr time there was a fifth DL&W car (number unknown) here, scrapped c. 1980.
