Some accomplishments this year were many. Some off of the top of my head.
1) The return of the Frisco 2-10-0 1630 was returned to operation at the Illinois Railway Museum.
2) The Union Pacific Dash 8-40-B 1848 was preserved at IRM and in operation at Diesel Days.
3) The Mid-Contintent Railway Museum has started in earnest the restoration of C&NW 1385
4) Western Maryland's project on the 1309 may be the best news of the year for big steam.
5) Southern 4501 and the Norfolk Southern steam program are at the top of the list too!
6) PM 1225 back in service and running in Michigan.
7) Milwaukee Road 261 in service.
8) Fantastic progress on the ATSF 2926

Failures: I hate to even pile on, but the collapse of the Union Pacific steam program would have to top the list.

A board of directors decision not to fund the cost of having a professional fund raiser set up for the ability to apply for funding because of the few thousand dollars cost involved. This excluded comprehension of the cost of not doing so.........which consequences will haunt the progress of the operation for many years into the future.

Northern Ohio Railway Museum has two items to report this year.

1. The rehabilitation of our 10 ton Plymouth locomotive. This Model DDT diesel hydraulic locomotive was built in 1960 by Plymouth Locomotive for the Dundee Cement Company. It has a Detroit Diesel 4-71 engine coupled to an Allison model TCD535 transmission. Brakes are straight air with a B-W TU-FLOW 500 air compressor supplying air. It worked at the companies Independence, Ohio transload facility. Here RR covered hoppers of cement were transferred to trucks for shipment to concrete batch plants in the region. In 2011 it was retired by corporate successor Holcim (US) Inc. It was donated to the Museum in 2012.

Then we began rehabilitating it. Its mechanical systems were serviced and repaired as needed. It had its brake system completely rebuilt including new brake shoes. Inoperable systems like the bell, horn, and lighting were restored to operation. The horn was replaced with a whistle, we are a trolley museum! The entire body was needle scaled and wire brushed to remove a very resilient coating of hardened cement. It was discovered the body had practically no rust. Perhaps we should be covering our cars in cement to protect them! Finally it was primed and painted in traction orange and gloss black. This locomotive now does 90% of the car switching needed at the museum, Only the heaviest items get the services of our other car mover, Cleveland Railway Crane 0711. Below are before and after photos.

2. As reported in a previous post back in October, for the first time in the history of the Museum, we have given public trolley rides on one of our trolley cars at our property. A total of 2,411 visitors came to the Museum over a two day period. Below is a photo of our first riders.

Many other projects made progress, but nothing ready to be called completed.

Seriously? How about the restoration of the Narrow Gauge Circle for starters ...

Well, there were a few things accomplished at the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum this year:

1. Last pour in West Annex of Shop in February so that half the floor is now concreted.
2. Ballast tamper donated by U.P. arrived at the museum in April.
3. C&O garage (used for payloader storage building) repaired and repainted.
4. Repainting of the C&O style North Judson depot.
5. Painting of IC Iowa Division caboose finished, lettered and given number 9914.
6. Purdue University (Orton) self-propelled crane repainted.
7. New display cabinet donated and placed in depot.
8. Work continued on Grasselli Tower.
9. Surplus 500 gallon LP gas tank converted to wood stove for West Shop (photo).
10. Erie MofW building repainted.
11. First "fire-up" in 11-1/2 years of ND&W (Porter) diesel accomplished in December.
12. 451 new regular ties and 12 switch ties installed on HVRM museum trackage.
13. Old Erie/NYC wye right-of-way cleared, also resulting in boxcar load of firewood.
14. Two county road crossings rebuilt with 48 new ties and new asphalt pavement surfaces.

And a number of miscellaneous projects, including a full schedule of regularly scheduled and specially operated passenger trains for visitors.
