It seems the only wye available would be at the old roundhouse area in Allentown and it can only turn a few locomotives at a time. The wye in Bethlehem is disconnected at the southern end with a sinkhole where the old Reading line went. They only use the upper yard for freight car storage, the lower Saucon Yard was torn out several years ago, that is south of the sinkhole. The reason for trackage removal in south Bethlehem is directly related to Bethlehem Steel's demise. 2102 turned on that wye during a excursion from Temple to Jim Thorpe in Sept. 1985. The only way 765 could do it now would be to turn locomotive and two tenders at the Allentown wye but not turn the train. Reading and Harrisburg have full wyes, as well as Newark, NJ, Norristown, PA (SEPTA), West Falls, PA (junction with CSX) and Morrisville, PA has the ability to turn a train on a loop track. The Lehigh Limited excursion to Bethlehem last year didn't need a wye, the diesels simply ran around the train at the old Trailvan piggyback facility during the lunch stop.

Is this actually a covert attempt to achieve the opposite goal? The more annoying the Lehigh Valley seems, the less likely it is to host the trips. Perhaps he is actually the Allentown yard master?

What excursion? To Allentown, but where would this originate? With steam? What steam locomotive?

Was I in a time warp and missed something important, or is this just another foamer fantasy?

Nothing has been planned. He hopes that if he talks about it enough that a trip will happen. This has nothing to do with preservation either and should probably be in the railfanning section (at best).

Sometimes we forget that when writing on the internet.

For what it's worth, 765 did not wye the entire train last year in Ft Wayne when coming from Detroit. The locomotive was taken for servicing and turned while the train sat on the elevated platform.

Not the case as per one of his prior posts, as seen in the attached image.

Ok, ok I get the point. The horse is dead. But I was discussing a what if scenario about wyes. It seems that there is only one functional wye in my area used for the purpose of turning NS motive power where a roundhouse once was. So, like the Fort Wayne trips 765 would have to turn by itself with the aux tender and not turn the train. At Harrisburg, Enola, and Reading the entire train can be turned. They did just that last year and the year before, they turned the train at Enola and Harrisburg.

You better eat your words. There will be excursions from Allentown this August with 765. They go to Pittston and return, a 180 mile round trip.

The arrangements have been made to turn the engine itself in Allentown. That is all.
