Just received some back-channel intel about this--- can it be true?? 2100 being returned east of the Mississippi? Word is that it will be returned to original coal-burning capability (no surprise there, eh?).

Inquiring minds want to know!!

And it's not even 4/1/15 yet......

Hmmm, well if that is true it would be great news. Cleveland is only 70 miles away from me. A Frisco locomotive is also supposed to be heading to Cleveland too.

As the Director of Communications and Media for American Steam Preservation, I can confirm that the plan is for Frisco 1352 to move to Cleveland as soon as funds are raised to do it. It is ASR's plan to restore 1352 to operating condition in Cleveland.

As for the 2100, you guys brought the dead horse, I'll go find some sticks to beat it with. :-)

The info I received was from a rail logistics professional, not Trainorders. Yes, it seems far-fetched, but stranger things have happened in this game.

The first big engine I rode behind was RDG 2100 on an Iron Horse Ramble in the mid 60s; yes, I have some affection for 2100, and would love to see it in action once more.

Now, I'll just sit back and wait and see what happens....

likely? maybe not. but....NS is done with steam...611 will never run again......sure, some planets have to align, but stranger things have happened.

Of all the locomotives out there which could run again someday, I see 2100 well near the top of the list. Sure, she needs a rebuild, but she was running a few years back and then stored in a very favorable climate.

This move is as likely as 1361 operating in the near future. The Altoona Railroad museum is just a terrible excuse for a museum. Put the Strasburg owner in charge and they'll have it ready. The museum is as good as the movie foodfight. Nothing to be proud of in it.

Someone was talking about 2100 and 1361 double heading up horseshoe curve in 2016. I'm just not a big fan of the Altoona museum. Sure, it has 2 of the greatest engines ever made, aka a gg1 and a k4, a saddle tank engine, a roundhouse, and a large extensive collection of PRR rolling stock. The only problem is that they don't take good care of it. All the stuff there besides the decapod tender either is rusty, in dire need of paint, and in parts. Just sell the museum to JJJ, he built an 18 stall roundhouse in a matter of 2 years, while this much smaller roundhouse was completed in a decade.

Right after they receive the modifications specified by L.D. Porta, financed by a previously unknown Section of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, to be completed at Altoona after all of NS' ex UP SD90macs are converted to gen-sets.

Not even that....two different businesses. One is a wealthy individual making use of his profitable enterprise to support his private hobby and share it with the world, the other is a not entirely successful attempt at creating a tourist destination based on history - and it's not a rail technology museum, but a sociological history museum. Altoona only needs locomotives as a means of showing what the people whose history they interpret worked on.
