Thanks, Bob, for all the info on the Mount Royal, Orange State, and the other cars purchased by Dave Wallace!

Of the cars purchased by Dave Wallace, here's what I can add:

52. Orange State (coach #2206) is extant.

Show Me (Lot #4843, Plan #4090B, 1925/39/40, 8S-1DR-3DB, streamlined for Gulf Coast Rebel, ex-Leaning Tower, nee-Point Pleasant)--sold to GM&O (1948) withheld from lease (1965) sold to Dave Wallace, scrapped 1973.

Deep South (Lot #4843, Plan #4090B, 1925/39/40, 8S-1DR-3DB, streamlined for Gulf Coast Rebel, ex-Torazzo Tower, nee-Point Vivian)--sold to GM&O (1948) withheld from lease (1965) sold to Dave Wallace. Disposition/current status unknown.

Lake Melville (Lot #4933, Plan #3585A, 1926, 10S-1DR-2C)--sold to GM&O (1948) withheld from lease (1965) sold to Dave Wallace. Disposition/current status unknown.

193. East Lexington (Lot #4868, Plan #3410A, 1925, 12S-1DR, Capitol Limited)--sold to GM&O (1948) to coach #2205 (1959) sold to Dave Wallace, was photographed being moved through Sarah Street Yard (NS) in St. Louis under ICC order in February 1987, to Wisconsin Great Northern #26, stored in Spooner, WI.

Parlor lounge #3040 Chicago, built as Chicago & Alton parlor observation #680. Disposition/current status unknown.

Lake Selby (Lot #4898, Plan #3585A, 1925, 10S-1DR-2C) sold to GM&O (1948) to coach #2207 (1961) sold to Dave Wallace, was photographed being moved through Sarah Street Yard (NS) in St. Louis under ICC order in February 1987. Disposition/current status unknown.

Trinity (Lot #4945, Plan #3410A, 1926, 12S-1DR, Sunset Limited) sold to GM&O (1948) to coach #2208 (1961) sold to Dave Wallace. Disposition/current status unknown.

Besides the scrapped car Show Me, and survivors 52. Orange State (#2206) and 193. East Lexington (#2205), does anybody have info regarding the disposition/current status of any of the other 5 cars purchased by Dave Wallace? Parlor #3040 Chicago, Deep South, Lake Melville, Lake Selby (#2207), or Trinity (#2208). Thanks in advance!

I found some additional photos of the Lake Mitchell painted as the Frank W. Ladky, which is not listed in the Madden, Wayner, or Spear databases, so the name must have been applied after retirement by PRR. Was this car privately owned before going to NRM?

Additional Survivors:

These 2 cars had been mentioned in this thread from December 2001: http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2442

377. Marsh Run (Lot #4698, Plan #4015, 1923/32, 6DB-buf-lng, Liberty Limited)--sold to PRR #8573 (1948) sold to Richard S. Kaserman (1960) sold to Mack Lowry-Railroads of America Museum (Cuyahoga Falls, OH) (before 1973) sold to Unusual Junction (West Lafayette, OH) (198?)

378. Matchless (Lot #3804, Plan #4019M, 1910/33/43, rest-diner-plr [10], ex-Honey Brook, PRR)--sold to PRR #7003 (1945) sold to Richard S. Kaserman (1956) sold to Mack Lowry-Railroads of America Museum (Cuyahoga Falls, OH) (before 1973) sold to Unusual Junction (West Lafayette, OH) (198?)

Unusuaul Junction also has 2 modified heavyweights (see below photos 5 and 6) and the 1895 Frederick depot, as seen on their website on the "Train Depot" page: http://www.theunusualjunction.com/

Pictures:

1. Marsh Run, picture taken on Christmas Day, 2010: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5147/5635762870_5c0b69559e_o.jpg (Ryan Mills photo)

2. Marsh Run, picture taken on August 16th, 2011: https://www.flickr.com/photos/n8myc/6756939059/sizes/l (Bob McGilvray, Jr. photo)

3. Matchless, picture taken on Christmas Day, 2010: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5147/5635182097_8a74091963_o.jpg (Ryan Mills photo)

4. Matchless, picture taken on August 16th, 2011: https://www.flickr.com/photos/n8myc/6756931769/sizes/l (Bob McGilvray, Jr. photo)

Besides the Marsh Run and Matchless, there are 2 modified heavyweights. These 2 cars appear to both be of PRR origin, but at this time I don't know the identities of either of these cars. What's interesting is that these 2 cars appear to have different numbers at each end!

5. Green car, one end of which is lettered #041297; the car is named Brendan Keeley. Picture taken on August 16th, 2011: https://www.flickr.com/photos/n8myc/6756924619/sizes/l (Bob McGilvray, Jr. photo)

6. Red car, one end of which is lettered #102693; the car is named Maxx Conor. Picture taken on August 16th, 2011: https://www.flickr.com/photos/n8myc/6756947349/sizes/l (Bob McGilvray, Jr. photo)

These two cats are remnants of PRR's extensive fleet of heavyweight cars that were rebuilt to match lightweight cars. Both of them are very rare modernized heavyweight "D70CR" twin-unit diner table cars... something that were very rarely done with some roads who used twin-unit diners buying new cars instead. The Chesapeake & Ohio also had one modernized heavyweight twin-unit diner as well, being the only other example.

The use of two diners on some runs led the PRR to rebuild these old cars to match the lightweight equipment while also creating a set of cars that could better handle the demand that some trains were seeing, with the table car providing seating for 68 passengers which was accompanied by a kitchen - dorm. On rare occasions, to meet customer demand, some kitchen - dorm cars were operated with two table cars with the larger kitchens being able to the extra demand.

Here are links to diagrams for the PRR's unique cars...

http://prr.railfan.net/diagrams/PRRdiagrams.html?diag=d70dr_fp.gif&sel=din&sz=sm&fr=

As for the numbers... the ones on the cars are not their actual PRR numbers. Will try to find the numbers that were assigned to these cars later today.

I received information the other day from David Conrad regarding the Pullman cars owned by the Valley Railroad, including 3 additional survivors:

On 1/10/2014 on Page #7, Rainier Rails wrote:

207. Wayfarer (Lot #6077, Plan #4075, 1927/37, lng-plr [14], Merchants Limited/WAB, ex-Wallingford)--sold to WAB (1945) sold to KCS #501 (April 1952) sold to Reader RR #500 Rambler (circa 1960) sold to Valley RR (circa 1970), restored as Wallingford

On 1/18/2014 on Page #11, Rainier Rails wrote:

261. Da Costa (Lot #6087, Plan #3416C, 1927, 1DR-plr [28], PRR)--sold to PRR #7068 (1945) to MofW #WX92115 (1956) later renumbered to #492115, sold to Toledo, Lake Erie & Western (when??) sold to J.M. Hebda (circa May 1988) sold to Valley RR (circa July 1988), restored as Dacosta

On 8/23/2014 on Page #20, Rainier Rails wrote:

334. Great Republic (Lot #6325, Plan #4001, 1930, plr [34], Yankee Clipper)--sold to NYNH&H #2050 (1945) sold to Jim Bradley (circa 1964) sold to Valley RR (June 1993)

Additional Survivors:

379. Toreador (Lot #4217, Plan #4033, 1913/33, restaurant [20]-lng [10]-plr [12], NYC, ex-Navarre)--sold to NYC #499 (1942) to P&LE MofW #300601 (circa 8/3/1956), assigned to East Youngstown wreck train, sold to Valley RR (August 1988)

380. Provincetown (1st) (Lot #4803, Plan #3917E, 1924/35, 1DR-lng [10]-plr [24], Merchants Limited)--sold to NYNH&H #2071 (1945). In September 1948, the New Haven swapped the names of a dozen parlors, the Provincetown (1st) was renamed to Plymouth (2nd), while the Plymouth (1st) was renamed to the Auburn (2nd). The Provincetown (1st)/Plymouth (2nd) was transferred to MofW as the #W-215 and assigned to the Dover Street wreck train (circa 1960), later used as office space in Boston, sold to Valley RR (circa January 1986)

While not built by Pullman, I decided to assign this car a line item number as I did with the St. Hyacinthe at CSRM:

381. Lindsay (CC&F, 1923, 12S-1DR) built as CN #1573, rebuilt to 8S-1DR-2C #1814 (1947) transferred to MofW as #54952 (circa 1979) sold to Brett Gretmuller (when??) sold to Stephen McAllister (when??) sold to Valley RR (September 2009)

In Addition:

*IRM lists the #5316 as being modernized in 1951.

Thread from October 2002: http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4092

David noted that the #5316 was acquired by Robert Johnson in the 1970's, and it was moved to IRM, to which he left the car.

Besides SOU #2523 Glen Summit, Glen Saddell (still pending), PRR #8836 John Greenleaf Whittier, and Palm Lane (on long term lease from CNY Chapter), are there any additional heavyweight sleepers that have been acquired by Iowa Pacific/SLRG, either already listed as a survivor in this thread or otherwise??

Thanks, Jerry, for the info on Iowa Pacific's heavyweight sleeper acquisitions!

232. Eupolis [sic]* (Lot #4624, Plan #2411C, 1921, 12S-1DR-1C, PRR)--sold to PRR #8706 (1948) to unknown to SLRG #9169 (201?)

*Looks like somewhere along the way an "o" got added to the spelling.

233. Anthracite Club (Lot #6274, Plan #3989U, 1929, 8S-buf-sol-lng-obs, PRR, ex-Country Club)--sold to PRR #8620 (1948) to unknown to SLRG #9180 (201?)

I searched the CCR database for all cars with "Country Club" in the name and came up with a total of nine. Two were sold to NdeM from NYC/Big Four, of six total sold to CCC&StL at the 12/31/1948 divestiture. Two were sold to SOU on 12/31/1948 as #2507 and #2508. The only one acquired by PRR on 12/31/1948 was Anthracite Club, which had been renamed in 1940 from Country Club. The eight other cars all had prefixes on their "Country Club" names; for example, Pepper Pike Country Club and Ashland Country Club (the two cars sold to SOU). The car sold to PRR was the only car without a prefix, just that it had been renamed before the divestiture.

I can only guess that line items 231-233 were acquired by SLRG from the same place, as they all share the common PRR heritage.

Using the Internet Archive, I found a cached version of the Ozark Mountain Railcar sale page of the Country Club/Anthracite Club, cached on 2/25/2009: http://web.archive.org/web/20090225075205/http://ozarkmountainrailcar.com/country_club.htm

I didn't see any evidence that the University Club or Eupolis were listed for sale on OMR, so at this point in time I'm not sure if Iowa Pacific acquired all 3 from the same owner. Can anyone provide more information? Thanks in advance!

Here are the 3 pictures of the Country Club/Anthracite Club from the cached OMR page, as PAPX #492383:

A Mystery Car:

A photo of this car is currently listed for sale on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-Cabot-Cabot-Forbes-Passenger-Car-Original-35mm-Railroad-Slide-/111038303533?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19da660d2d

The car is lettered Cabot, Cabot & Forbes, a Boston-based real estate firm, however, there is no name visible on the car; the photo is dated December 1969. Interesting use of gold paint, not only for the roof, belt rail, and lettering, but also on the trucks, couplers, and underbody equipment!

Does anyone know this car's identity and/or current status/disposition? There appears to be 8 sections and a lounge solarium observation at the non-vestibule end. Thanks in advance!

I believe that Steve Torrico of The Pullman Company told me they have about 25 heavy weights awaiting restoration for service and an equal number of stainless steel cars some of which are currently in service and some of which are being restored.

In researching former L&N Pullmans, this is a little confusing.

Pullman Project record 4167 lists the William Lewis Sharkey being Lot 4367/Plan4036 rebuilt or converted from 2410E Hargwen to L&N 1948.

Jerry Laboda's page also lists Pullman Robert F. Hoke as ex L&N William Lewis Sharkey Plan 3979 for Frisco.

Can anyone clarify which of the information is correct?

KComer--

There were at least 3 different sleepers that carried the name William Lewis Sharkey, all for Southern's Crescent Limited, hence the multiple records as seen here; all are correct. Names of sleepers assigned to the CL were reused, so there are several names which appear more than once in the records, William Wyatt Bibb is another example. In fact, there were 4 different William names that were used.

Hope this helps to clear things up.
