Thanks, Bulby, for the info!

Choteau Coulee and White Pines Lake appear to be taken while both were assigned to the same set of the Empire Builder. Thanks, Don, for identifying these locations!

The Silver Screen was articulated to C&S 12S sleeper #653 Silver Skates (ex-CB&Q #413), and this pair of sleepers was also part of the TZ trainset sold to the Civic Plaza National Bank, then to Saudi Arabia. This slide was also likely taken in Denver.

While I'm not positive that they are sister cars, #1947 is very close to IRM's RPO-baggage CB&Q #1923, which is an 1914 product of AC&F. There are a few detail differences, including a blanked off third window on the #1947.

Ted, this is really great stuff. I'm sure I'm not the only one enjoying these. A good save on acquiring all these Al Chione slides, and good on him for taking all these so many years ago. I especially like all the lightweight Zephyr shots, particularly since they are mostly 1960's era shots after the cars all have some miles on them.

I am enjoying this series as well.
As with all slide collections, are we sure Chione took all of these? There appears to be a bit of variation in style, exposure, geography, etc. in these slides, and I thought most of his work was from the east coast.

If you want my guesses at location:
77 Omaha (could be Minneapolis)
86 and 95: just west of Chicago, near Cicero and Clyde Yard
88 and 98: these are on a Notre Dame special. Probably South Bend station?
102: Minneapolis

Chris.

Thanks, Topfuel!

I'm looking to acquire some additional Al Chione slides, so hopefully sometime next week I'll have more to upload.

In regards to whether or not Al Chione took these slides or if they were slides that were part of his collection, in his description for these slides, the seller said the following:

Quote:
In years past, Al Chione had the inside track with many of the most highly regarded rail photographers across the country. He would sift through their collections for the best of the best, and then duplicate those slides and offer them in limited numbered sets to appreciative collectors.

16 CB&Q slides to go, here's the next 4.

I hadn't realized before that CB&Q had repainted the #483 from Loewy Two-Tone Green to Silver before retirement in 1967 and subsequent sale to Solano Rail Car Company. The #483 is now owned by Dave and Lewis Foster and located in Roanoke.

After several subsequent owners, including a time spent on Jack Showalter's Alleghany Central, the #92 is now inside the Main Street Station Casino in Las Vegas, as discussed in this thread: http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37233

I'm pretty sure this is Galesburg, IL before the "Advance Track" and the house tracks were torn out. The roof line of the building in the background is distinctive. The platform edges also match what little remains of the original Galesburg platforms.

The car would be on Main #1 with the train facing west, if I am correct. Did the westbound Nebraska Zephyr run combined to Galesburg in the last years? Could this have been taken while a combined train was being split?

A correction for photo #102:

After looking at the image again, I realized it is not of the Nebraska Zephyr, due to the vestibule being located at mid-length. After looking at photos of several of the other CB&Q Budd prewar observations, I narrowed it down: the slide in question showed either the #302 Silver Hours or the #303 Silver Fountain. Looking closely at some specific details, I concluded the slide is of the #303 Silver Fountain, as the #302 had several more bumps in the smooth skirting at the observation end, and lacked the typical brake application red plunger above the rear truck, which is present on the #303.

Thanks, Bulby, for identifying the location as Galesburg! I don't know anything regarding the Nebraska Zephyr being combined/split at Galesburg; however, one of the other slides of the NZ, photo #62, does show several (4 or 5) heavyweight mail & express cars ahead of the articulated trainset. Would it make any sense that these m & e cars were added/removed at Galesburg?
