Since you didn't eliminate the previous "rebuild", I can live with it. Especially since it is the "authentic" Railroad Fair version. I found PRR8157's photo of the "backdated" #222 on another website and in the corner of that photo is what the 222 looked like with the centered headlight in regular service. I kind of wonder why the C&EI kept the Atlantic around so long as the railroad had quite a fleet of Pacific's. Was she actually used on a particular train? As reserve power? Or......?

You are very welcome. I had no idea what photographs were hiding in the old slide cases when I found them in my Dad's basement but I kept them hoping for old family pictures. Little did I know that these Railroad Fair images were in there plus the journals that dated them. More to come.

Dang! Wish that post wouldn't have gotten in the way of your Dad's shot of C&EI 4-4-2 #222. There was some talk about the C&EI preserving this Atlantic, but unfortunately, it didn't happen. BUT, the drivers and valve gear were saved and put on display at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry where, with a push of a button, the drivers and valve gear would rotate! Wonder if that is still on display there?

I wish that the dirt on the slides was gone. I might try alcohol and q-tips to clean any if you want me to try.

With the images you are posting, I am cleaning up the dust, etc. (especially in the sky) with my imaging program, PaintShop Pro 7. The main tool is called "Salt and Pepper Filter." I also use "Blur, Average" to smooth out the sky. I also do an automatic color correction to move the image toward the bluer side (restoring sky color) and remove the color cast. I also enhance the contrast some, and sharpen the image.

I am no expert but I would caution against using alcohol or Q-tips on the slides. A soft brush, like an artist's brush (usually they recommend camel's hair) and also a pressurized air spray (like they recommend for dusting computers) are probably the best tools. I am sure there are experts out there who could chime in.

For not being an expert you certainly get nice results. Better than I could do.

My Dad said that they would use two trains to serve as a curtain to end the show.

I remember my Dad talking about the show and the locomotive curtain. I did record my Dad's life memories on audio cassettes and can go back and see if I got that recorded.

After looking at a couple other sites on the Chicago Rail Fair I can say yours is by far the best and most complete. Very nice work.
