Alonzo B. Cornell is owned by the Rochester and Genesee Valley Railroad Museum. It is outfitted with a generator for electrical power. The museum's other six Empire State Express cars have already been discussed in this thread.

From our website:
NYC 5021/"Alonzo B. Cornell" - Built 1941 as Railway Post Office, to Penn Central in 1968, sold to National Research Council in 1971. Alonzo B. Cornell was the 27th Governor of New York (1880-1882).

Fact - just because a car has MRLX reporting marks, doesn't mean it's OWNED by MRLX. When UMLER became necessary and you couldn't just spray paint PPCX 800XXX on the side of a car anymore, Mid America offered more than reasonable usage terms for equipment owners looking to make equipment roadworthy. That's why there are so many MRLX cars rostered.

The City of Angels (2nd) is now lettered as Great Lakes Rail Car (GTLX). Is the City of Angels still owned by Philip Sheridan-IFE Leasing or was it sold to another party who uses the GTLX reporting marks or directly to GTLX?

I've now accounted for the 4 other 10-16 Slumbercoaches.

I was looking through Jerry's website and found a link to the following photo of the one of the rebuilt 16-10 Slumbercoaches renamed to Holly Harbor and located in Lordstown, OH. The photographer says that these photos were taken at the "Space Center", and he has uploaded photos of several diesels (some ex-AT&SF) at this facility, some of which appear to be in the process of being disassembled part by part.

I did some further searching, and the diesels appear to be lettered for Larry's Truck & Electric (LTEX), so is the "Space Center" a LTEX facility, or is it simply used for overflow capacity/storage?

A second photo shows that the Holly Harbor is at this facility with at least 6 other cars, most of which are in Amtrak Phase III paint: 2 more 10-16 Slumbercoaches, a 24-8 Slumbercoach, 2 10-6 sleepers, and a buffet lounge: https://picasaweb.google.com/ErieChris333/ProtoPhotos#5078645526107957074

Using Google Earth satellite imagery, I located 6 of the 7 cars parked together at this facility, but at a different spot (tangent rather than on a curve). Seeing as how the actual date of the satellite imagery is unknown, I don't know if it dates from before or after the photos I linked to above.

I did some Google searching, and found this Trainorders thread from November 2003: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,641232

First, "Amtrak288" posted:

Then, Harry Bechtold posted:

Fairport & Monroe Harbors Survive

I was the lucky Bidder on these 2, along with 3 other cars when they were up for Auction by Amtrak in April 2001 from Hialeah Florida. The cars were in pretty good shape appearance wise, but alot of the parts from the undercarriage had been canibalized to keep existing Heritage Diners, Dorms, and Bags running. (Amtrak doesn't inventory many of those parts anymore) The Cars are stored in Eastern Ohio along with privately owned Holly Harbor, renamed I believe from South Haven Harbor.

What is strange about this series of Amtrak rebuilt cars is that they all retained their original Budd Skirting (except Holly Harbor).

Okay, so that being the case, does anybody know the identities of the other 4 cars stored at Lordstown, or who owns the South Haven Harbor/Holly Harbor? (3 of these 4 cars are in Phase III: the 24-8 Slumbercoach and the 2 10-6 sleepers, so I'm guessing these are the other 3 cars purchased by Harry Bechtold.) Also, who owns the buffet lounge; same owner as the Holly Harbor?

On a side note, the last post in the Trainorders thread was:

heracles87 wrote:
Harry, you're our mystery owner. Ray Getty of Fayetteville, AK, who also purchased a car while in Hialeah has told me of you being the owner of the car but couldn't remember for the life of him your name.

Does anybody know what car Ray Getty purchased?

Answered my own question. Well, one of them:

The other 3 cars purchased by Harry Bechtold were the:

24-8 Slumbercoach #2081 Loch Long (ex-#2035, exx-BN, exxx-NP #331, nee-B&O #7703 Sleepland, Budd, 1959): https://www.flickr.com/photos/fan-t/14152889992/sizes/l

10-6 sleeper #2475 Miami (ex-#2701, exx-SCL #6616, nee-SAL #43, Budd, 1949): https://www.flickr.com/photos/fan-t/14152889792/sizes/l

11DB sleeper #2232 Star Leaf (ex-#2252, exx-UP #1703, nee-5DB buffet lounge Grand Island, P-S, 1956/65). Seen here on the right next to 10-16 Slumbercoach #2050 Monroe Harbor: https://www.flickr.com/photos/fan-t/14152889282/sizes/l

Here's a photo of the #2051 Fairport Harbor: https://www.flickr.com/photos/fan-t/14152889452/sizes/l

The photos linked to above were taken by Todd Dillon on November 5th, 2011.

So, that leaves the identity and owner of the buffet lounge and the owner of the South Haven Harbor/Holly Harbor.

"........Ray Getty of Fayetteville, AK, who also purchased a car while in Hialeah has told me of you being the owner of the car but couldn't remember for the life of him your name."

"Does anybody know what car Ray Getty purchased?"

Ray Getty did not purchase a car out of Hialeah. He purchased the former B&O 16-4 "Cardinal" at Lordstown, OH from Larry Smith. He sold it a few years later to Ben Butterworth, but sadly the car was heavily damaged while moving in CSX freight service en route to Gateway in East St. Louis. I believe it is still at Gateway but it would be an expensive repair to make on a car there is not a big market for.

"So, that leaves the identity and owner of the buffet lounge and the owner of the South Haven Harbor/Holly Harbor."

Holly Harbor was owned by Bill Owen. He sold it to Bill Grey (who also owns the former NYC sleeper lounge obs Fall Brook) maybe 3 or 4 years ago.

What buffet lounge in Lordstown are you talking about?

Thanks, Topfuel, for the info!

It can be seen at the far end of the line of cars in this photo: https://picasaweb.google.com/ErieChris333/ProtoPhotos#5078645526107957074

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a better shot of the car.

That's not a buffet lounge. That's the Woodland Stream. Formerly owned by Rich Kostura. Purchased by Glenn Bowman 2 or 3 years ago. Now based out of Orrville, OH.

Thanks, Topfuel, for identifying the Woodland Stream!

Two further questions/additions:

Rainier Rails wrote:
Part Two: Postwar Lightweights, Continued:

Coaches:

60 Cars, Budd, Lot #9613-004, 1946-1947, NYC Lot #2171:

Ordered in March 1944, delivered between October 1946 and March 1947. 56 seat coaches.

#2914 to PC #2914, sold in 1974 to Amtrak #5650, retired and later sold in 1988 to the Northern Central, resold (when??) to CVSR #2914.

#2945 to PC #2945, sold in 1973 to Amtrak #5684, retired in 1983. Current status unknown.

The Classic Rail Cars website in the Northern Central/Liberty Limited section lists the #2945 as sold to Conrail in 1986 "for an excursion program in Reading, PA", then resold to a private owner in 1990, and acquired by Classic Rail Cars in 1994. The Liberty Limited ended operated in September 2001, and the cars were dispersed. So, does anyone know where the #2945 ended up?

Also, I had previously listed the #2914 as sold in 1988 to the Northern Central. I'm a little confused as to the relationship between the NCR and Classic Rail Cars. Ken Bitten and Kevin Luebke did business as (d.b.a.) Classic Rail Cars, but who owned/controlled the NCR? Was the #2914 owned by NCR or by CRC? I haven't actually seen any photos of the #2914 on the CVSR, so did they ever own the car? If so, has it since been resold or is it in storage?

Ken Bitten was the head of the NCR when it was operating. The 2914 was used as office space on the NCR. CVSR purchased the car from Ken Bitten, and added HEP wiring, AC and heat and installed walkover seats to return the car to service. I think the car is still an active part of the roster.

That, I believe, is CVSR's A.A. Augustus coach...
