I recently took in a few films of Frisco 1522 on youtube. I was fortunate enough to ride behind it doubled up with 611 in 1994. A wonderful locomotive and very much missed I know. The Frisco locomotive look is eerily similar to the Southern RR. The 2 roads also seem to like the same tone with whistles too.
When the Southern was contemplating bigger power for its steam program in the 70’s, was any thought ever given to trying to get their hands on one of the Frisco Mountains - 2 of which were in their back yard. Graham Claytor wanted to get 290 in the program as a mock up PS-4, but the former president of the A&WP put stop to that. Pacifics were not the only Green and Gold locos in the Southern fleet. The TS and TS-1 Mountain types were Green and Gold too. The Frisco Mountains and TS-1’s were relatively close statistically and favor one another in appearance (yes the boiler top mounted reservoirs on the Frisco’s are quite distinct and the disc type main driver - too). Just an observation and dang it I should have written up a bogus press release about either the Mobile -1527 or Amory one 1529 being moved to TVRM to be rebuilt as a Southern TS-1 for yesterday’s April fools fun…

The best one was the rumours at the time that CP 2839 was going to come out green/gold for the, I believe, 2nd year of service in 1980. Even a mention of Railfan & Railroad about it. Really wouldn't be all that far-fetched since there were some plans at one point to rebuild the CP 5288 at TVRM and paint it green/gold.

Of course, if you really want to ruffle some feathers, just put out the press release that 611 is going to be painted in the Southern streamlined green/gold/white scheme since the 4501 is honoring the black freight livery. That would have get some attention.

Hmmm, which one would be better for April Fool next year--611 in Southern's streamlined green, gold, and aluminum, or 611 in J1 configuration (non-streamlined)?

Either one would ruffle feathers all over--and either one would be interesting to actually see!

May not be too late, the last pic of 611's tender only showed the yellow application a shot of old gold whould be next. So maybe we get metalic white in place of tuscan and green in place of black ;)
