One of Catalpa Falls' owners, or its outright owner, lurks here; I'm not sure of the specifics, but he owned it as far back as the mid-1980s.

A few corrections/notes:
Photo 231 isn't in Chicago (if it is I am very curious as to where). It looks to be in the same location as 227. This may well be Grand Rapids, but the date doesn't make sense in that event. Could this be Houston, possibly? As I have said before, I think most of these slides were taken of excursion or other extra trains, which explains why they have equipment and dates that don't otherwise make sense.

In 234, the Tower View had several owners between PRR and the RR Museum of PA.

And did the Samuel Rea go to Great Lakes Central? If so, has it moved there yet? I do know GLC purchased the ex-SAL Venice recently, but I haven't heard about the Sam Rea.

Photos 231 and 227 were taken at Union Station, Louisville Kentucky. The WikipediA article on same has a b&w photo that clearly shows the station, the train shed, and the adjoining freight terminal building. The car Birch Falls shown in photo 231 was parked in the freight terminal. The date of the photo (May 1, 1965) was the date of the Kentucky Derby that year, which likely explains what the car was doing in Louisville and why the freight terminal trackage was being used.

Photo #212 of Class PS21A 21RM sleeper #8294 Wilkinsburg Inn was taken in Denver. The tan-colored, windowless building seen behind the car is the western facade of the US Post Office building that was located in the block south of Union Station.

Catalpa Falls:

One of the owners has told me that he and a partner purchased the car in 1972 from the PC, and has thus now owned it longer than the railroad did. Overhaul at Western Md. Scenic RR completed in 2010 included full side-sill replacement on both sides, collision post rebuild, body repair around windows, vestibule rebuild, replacement of all steam-heating equipment and the battery / motor generator with full 480-volt HEP, installation of MU and COMM cables, new Amtrak compliant diaphragms, complete new waste holding tank(s) and eight toilets, overhaul of the existing diesel generator, change out of the original PRR electrical panel with an Amtrak electrical panel, and complete truck rebuilds including wheel and bearing replacement. I believe it's currently somewhere over in Ohio.......... CORRECTED: Still at WMSR Ridgeley.

Samuel Rea:

The same group that now owns Catalpa Falls (which now has another partner) owns the Sam Rea, NOT the Great Lakes Central. GLC just happens to be where it's sitting for now.

My own informed speculation on both:

As with a lot of such PVs, the cars will get finished if/when money is available to finish them, either through long-term lease or lottery wins.

I've acquired 4 additional Al Chione duplicate slides, and here's the first:

NP 10S-1DR-1C sleeper #700 Chief American Horse (Pullman, Lot #6338, Plan #3973A, 1930, North Coast Limited). 1 of 37 such cars built in that Lot for the NCL; NP acquired 25 at the 12/31/1948 divestiture as #700-#724. The #700 was withheld from lease in October 1964 and as discussed in an earlier thread, it is presumed that it was scrapped. This slide was taken in Dallas on September 12th, 1964, photographer unknown. There was another slide for sale taken of a PRR heavyweight sleeper in Dallas (I recall around the same time), likely in the same yard; also, I narrowed it down that the sleeper to the right is most likely the 10S-3DB Villa Ada (rebuilt in 1931 from 10S-1DR-2C sleeper Calamus), and listed as retired in 1964, without being transferred to the MofW department.

Another slide:

CB&Q 44 seat chair-snack bar #340 Silver Parlor in Denver in September 1969. As the name implies, the #340 was originally built in 1949 as a 30 seat parlor with 5 seat drawing room, 1 of 2 such cars (the other was #341 Silver Chair) built in Lot #9628-036 for the Twin Cities Zephyr. In 1968, both cars were reconfigured to the chair-snack bar format, and I believe these cars were planned to be renumbered to BN #6142-#6143 respectively, and it is possible that the Silver Chair became #6143 before the startup of Amtrak, which acquired these 2 cars as #3920-#3921, with seating increased to 52. The #3921 was retired (when??), stored, and later (when??) sold to a private owner in Hodgkins, IL, while the Silver Parlor was converted/reconfigured in 1984 to HEP buffet-diner #8704 for the Auto Train. The #8704 was stored in October 1994 and listed for sale in October 1995, and in 2007 was acquired by the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic RR and placed in service with the name Furnace Run. Was there another party which owned the #8704 from 1995 to 2007, or was it stored at Beech Grove that entire time? Thanks in advance!

Another slide:

CB&Q California Zephyr dome buffet lounge-dormitory #251 Silver Lounge in Denver in December 1962. The #251 was planned to be renumbered as BN #803, but this was not applied (instead it was lettered as BN #251), and it was acquired by Amtrak as #9811. The #9811 was retired in October 1981 and sold in 1982 to Charles Barenfanger and Doug Ebert. In 1987-1988, the car was rebuilt to a dome buffet lounge-open platform observation configuration as the #800275, and it was renamed Sierra Hotel in 1991.

Another slide:

GN catenary maintenance car #X838, complete with adjustable-height platform and pantograph. The #X838 was built by StLCCo in 1929 as the all-baggage motorcar #2337, and the platform was installed at the Jackson Street Shops that same year, so obviously this car was ordered with the intention of using it for catenary maintenance on the Scenic Sub. Seen in Leavenworth, WA, in 1956.

Can we assume that the pantograph on X838 was raised to activate signals in electrified territory? This sure would have been a nice car to have been preserved.
