Mid-Continent uploaded a video today of Woodward Iron #41 (A 2-10-0) being loaded onto a truck and sent out. According to the video description, the loco will be loaded on a flatcar and shipped to Ohio.

Does anyone know where exactly the locomotive is being sent, and why it is being sent there?

I saw #41 back in July and she sure was pretty, despite being in rough shape. I hope this move marks a turn in events for her, and results in being moved undercover and possibly given a coat of paint.

It was reported yesterday at Trains.com Newswire that it's headed to the Age of Steam collection/roundhouse at Sugar Creek.

Number 41 was purchased at Mid Continent's auction by the Age of Steam Roundhouse organization earlier this year. I understand logistical considerations delayed the move until now. She is reportedly enroute to Sugarcreek, Ohio.

If the Age of Steam's web site or Facebook site doesn't currently have this information, I am sure they will be updated soon to include more details.

From Wisconsin DOT Facebook page:

The tender is already in Ohio, according to online reports.

Boy, there's some serious money being spent to move that thing.

Is she that heavy, or are the load ratings on the roads just really low?

The word I got from an observer who talked to the crane operators was just under 100 tons.
The truck move was about 7 miles to the next town where the Wisconsin & Southern has a yard with the necessary access.

Glad to see she's going to a good home!

For comparison, I understand this is a standard or stock Baldwin locomotive that was inspired by the famous "Russian" Decapods, and is a near twin to Strasburg 90 and several others of the type that are still around, including some that ran on the Gainesville Midland.

Please don't accept this as gospel because I'm not sure how authoritative my source might be. In any case, I heard it as general information, without specifics. I was told that at least one bridge on the only practical access roadway has a very strict weight restriction that required special precautions. That seems to be consistent with the design of the highway vehicle, which obviously spread the weight out pretty effectively.

Major kudos to the truck driver and all involved for maneuvering that rig around those narrow streets and backing it into position at the museum.

Here's a split-screen time-lapse video from the museum's two webcams showing the lift onto the heavy haul truck:

I know Age of Steam is privately owned, and doesn't make their every move public; but is it known what the plan is for #41?
