This commentary on PTC and the link to the referenced article comes from a Facebook page that is supportive of reinstating higher speed passenger service on the Florida East Coast Railway.

"I'm sure the anti-rail fanatics [reference to NIMBY opposition in Florida] will jump all over this extension, but the real information is in the details of the article.

"'The National Transportation Safety Board says positive train control is the best way to prevent deadly train accidents. It says the technology could have prevented 145 of the rail accidents it has investigated since 1969; those accidents killed 288 people and injured 6,574.'

"No one that I have spoken with disagrees. PTC is a good thing. But read those details again. This technology could have saved 288 people since 1969. 288 people? In 46 years?

"That is a testament to just how SAFE rail travel already is! Do you know how long it takes for 288 people to die on our roadways? Less than THREE DAYS."
