Our old and tired 44 tonner has run out of steel in it's wheel treads. This coming week she will take flight and have her trucks refurbished.

We have had a set of roller bearing equipped wheels sitting in the weeds for years and we are finally going to have them installed.

Total budget for the work is over $30k

Thank you for taking such good care of this rare Western Maryland artifact. Your efforts are much appreciated by the Wild Mary Brethren.

No Problem, she is a real treat to maintain and operate... Hopefully this will make it viable for the next 70 years.

If your ever in Michigan stop by for a visit. Someone once told me this unit was laid on it's side by the WM and they put it back together. I sure would like to find some photos of that.

Out of my own curiosity Sousakerry, would you consider leaving the journal lids on even after the conversion to roller bearings? I believe while the move is definitely maintenance easing a touch of historical integrity is needed keep the "original fabric" intact similar to what Steamtown/Strasburg did with its coach fleet. What do you think?

The axles came with modified pedestal boxes that the fronts and covers were cut off. My guess is this was done to facilitate the required machining. One could weld the hatch covers back on I guess but I doubt we will do that.
