I made a trip to eastern PA, CT and NY over the weekend, and contacted Howard Pincus about visiting the RMNE on Saturday. With my newly found interest in New England railroading I thought this would be a good place to start learning about what is going on in railway preservation in that part of the country.

First of all I would like to thank Howard and the rest of the members for showing me great hospitality during my visit. I came away quite impressed by their entire operation. On that day their tourist trains consisted of three heavyweight coaches and a most unlikely form of motive power, a B39-8. The GE performed flawlessly and its dynamic brakes came in handy on the southbound downgrade from the dam.

In their shop was a Rutland combine receiving some work including a newly built baggage door. Also in the shop was the last U boat built by GE which was receiving some oil cooler work. Outside the shop is a rather interesting collection of steam era rolling stock and first generation diesels including a certain outside framed wooden boxcar that has been the subject of a recent thread on RYPN.

After leaving CT I drove up to Albany for John Mech's Alco Preservation Dinner where I met RYPN's own Mr. Collison. Finally on Sunday I stopped by Minersville to see the 113 and ended up spending a half day there working on foundation brake rigging with Mike Fenstermaker. It was a great weekend to be out networking with fellow rail preservationists.
