We have also reached the "edge of history" for the people who worked in the locomotive building industry in the 1960s and before. There are now very few Alco people left, the designers of the EMD 1966 "40-series" product line and the 645 engine are almost all gone, and many of the people at EMD who worked on the Dash-2's and even the 50 series have now passed as well.

Almost a hundred years now since R&LHS was founded (in 1921). About five generations of railroad equipment designers and builders have passed in that time. It is a race against time to try to preserve what can be saved of the knowledge and documentation.

This seems to be an area that does not receive a lot of attention. The people who were engaged in building locomotives would be a great subject for The Trackside Photographer, and I would be happy to have an article for publication.
