According to Trains Magazine, 2 AEM7's arrived in Chicago on the westbound Capitol Limited this morning. Are these destined for preservation? They are Nos. 928 and 942.

942 was the trailing unit on the "Farewell AEM-7" special last June.

More than likely, they may be there to provide power for regular test track trains. Elsewhere on the interwebs it has been said the test track has no power for higher speed testing (125mph).

That is quite correct as the GP 40-3 is the fastest thing permanently on the property. However I can't think of anything in the pipe line that will require 125mph testing other than the corridor cars if they ever appear. I suspect the states will want to test them with a Charger for PR purposes.

Informal, but highly credible word on the Trains forum is that yes, the two locomotives will be high-speed test power and not 'victims'.

"Informed sources" confirmed they will be used for high speed testing if required, nothing currently planned. No plans for impact testing.
