Well, here is a little ditty for folks interested in the
Alphabet Route (1962-P&WV Rook Yard) and Fairbanks Morse
H-20-44's.
When things go off the rails, NKP, P&WV and WM bridge traffic
slows down. Info from Original P&WV Archives Materials.

And, this relates to rail preservation how?

Thanks!

History isn't just stuff that was there - it's what happened. This is a great story of a not too unusual bad day on the railroad back then.

Jim -

Well, we have a Nickel Plate Road gondola at our museum. Not sure if it is the same class as the one that apparently caused this derailment on the P&WV. Might be some other NKP gons preserved at other sites.

Dave & Les,

I agree that it's an interesting tale, but it's a stretch to say that it's preservation related.

Call me a Grinch. Yes, perhaps I have a burr under my saddle tonight. Maybe I'm not "passing well."

Still and all, this thread needs to slide over to the railfanning section.

I'll be quiet now.

Thanks!

The interchange mission strictly says it exist to discuss both railroad history and preservation related activities. I'd say this thread fairly falls within that distinction citing a historic derailment as the premise for its existence. Likewise this information can prove useful as future lessons regarding the safe operation of railroads on modern contemporaries.

Guys, our job is telling stories. All the stuff we get obsessive about are just stage props that help us do it. Important props to do the stories justice, but keep these priorities in mind.

We always enjoy sharing (the rest of the Story).
Most directly related to Historical R.R. Images, Static & Operating Displays/Exhibits.

Hi-Line's mission, to share only complete facts. All based on our vast
