I sent Pm's to both Jason and Mike, (never sent a PM before).

While I agree that it may be better for a responsible public museum to own equipment to allow public access and interest "private preservation" is not a bad thing. It's how many museums acquired pieces for their roster.

I would like to suggest that any organization that is facing scrapping or otherwise disposing of equipment should consider marketing to the masses. I think many of us consider the classified portion of this website or other railway blogs to be adequate. If you want to sell something eBay and Craigslist have done the trick.

Thank you everyone for the kind words, thoughts and replies.

Looks like RYPN still has some pull as this thread has potentially breathed some life back into a couple of deals that seemed to be deceased.

I should know more Tuesday.

Thought I would let everyone know where things stand as of today (I was waiting for a couple of things to firm up before posting)

- The passenger car, C&S 543 has a new owner and will be moving soon. It will be making quite a journey away from its home turf but will be restored and placed back in service as a passenger car. An excellent and happy conclusion to the 17 years I have been involved with this car.

- Things are looking pretty good for the wood and steel Colorado & Southern boxcars. I should know for sure in the next few days if they have new homes. Of course things could still change, so let me know if you have interest.

That said, in the typical "two steps forward one step back" world of RR preservation, two other cars at the same site; Union Pacific 908372 a 1950's drop bottom gondola / Omaha wreck train track panel car and Denver & Rio Grande Western AX 3219, a 1940's flat car with part of a 1920's boxcar on it that served as a track panel car for the Rio Grande's Salt Lake City wreck train are now in need of a home. The place these cars were headed for fell through at the last moment (last night) and they are now available.

Both cars are steel, roller bearing equipped and last moved on their own wheels in 2002 or so. They are no longer on live rail so they will have to be trucked.

Can I ask where C&S 543 will go, or when it might be leaving?

Can someone post some external pics of 543 please? I've trawled the internet without success.
Cheers, Bob
