Hello. I've noticed in recent images posted from tours of the Age of Steam roundhouse that Dave Kloke's 4-4-0 Leviathan is housed in the roundhouse. Did Jerry Joe Jacobson purchase the locomotive before he died or is Dave Kloke just renting space?

Thanks,

Marty

Our tour group was told it was sold to a new tourist railroad (I believe) somewhere near the "Steam Into History" operation in Pennsylvania.

I'm guessing either the Allentown and Auburn or Colebrookdale then. I remember messaging Steam into History early this year about if they were going to acquire it when Leviathan was listed on here as for sale and they said - While they would love to, they just dont have the facilities to handle two steam locomotives year round.

It's spent some time at AoS for at least the past 4 years.

While I'd love to see the Leviathan here in Boyertown, my understanding (being not affiliated in any way) is that their target era is the 1920's. Colebrookdale has expressed interest in steam in the past, but I don't think that an 1860's styled 4-4-0 is what they're looking for, in size or atmosphere.
Just my two cents.

It sounded like it was an entirely new operation.

Well to be fair; the Allentown and Auburn has only been in operation since 2015.

It has been just stored in the Age of Steam Roundhouse for the past two or three winters.

Is Kloke out of the locomotive business?

I reached out to the Facebook page for the Leviathan group back in August to see if there were any plans for the locomotive in 2017, and got the following answer back:

"Hi Jim,
Thanks for reaching out to us. There currently are no plans to exhibit Leviathan No. 63 this year; however, there is some good stuff on the horizon. Keep it tuned here for updates and info, and thanks again for following us!"

Doesn't sound like it's been sold to me...

The Leviathan has been sold. It will likely Winter at AOS and go to its new home sometime next year in Central PA. It is going to a private group that is building a 3 mile loop of track to run it on for special events. They are getting ready to start construction on their engine/train shed.

Kloke is currently building period coaches to go with the Leviathan. He is also finishing a 0-4-4 standard gauge Forney for a gentleman in Chicago. I don't see any additional locomotive in his future, but one never knows.

More details will come out in near future as Kloke and new owner issue an official press release.

No private operation.

I believe there are plans for private charters and public runs throughout year.

Well the cat is out of the bag. I knew it before but promised confidentiality. According to "The Community Courier" a local rag listing community events, "Leviathan" will be on public display at Stone Gables in conjunction with the grand opening of the Star Barn Village on July 3-4, 2018 in Elizabethtown PA. Eventually according to people in the know a 3 mile loop of track will be constructed on site to run it upon. You must buy tickets in advance to visit. All proceeds benefit Brittany's Hope that aids abandoned children world wide. Info and tickets may be found at https://thestarbarn.com/grand-opening/. The Star Barn has been a national agricultural architectural wonder near Middletown since 1877. It was moved to Stone Gables last year to save it for posterity.

Some looking found that the Star Barn Village is a part of a larger (275 acres) complex for events such as weddings and conferences called Stone Gables Estate. This includes the Star Barn Village and the Ironstone Ranch.

I remember seeing the Star Barn, from a frustratingly brief glimpse from the highway that ran past its original location. I was amazed at the thing, and am glad it is preserved, though not at its original location. That possible future ended with the farming operations and redevelopment of the area for more houses.

EDIT--found an online news story about the Leviathan.
