Greetings,

I've read some conflicting information regarding this heavy weight training car used on the GN and BN. According to a source this car was scrapped by the BN in the 80s. I however found an undated picture of it in private ownership. Does anybody know this story of this car?

Thanks!

According to this roster it was still around in 2004, owned by something called "eXtravaganza Events & Props" in North Carolina:

I found this photo on their website (under "the depot") which may be it:

If this is the car I think it is, it was stuffed and mounted at a golf course north of Minneapolis, I assume this is why some rosters list it as scrapped.

The Golf course morphed into a plant nursery and the car was sold off.

The one at the golf course was rule instruction car B-5 and was scrapped a couple years ago. Ironhorse Central and Mtm both received many parts.

To add to PMC's note-great picture, by the way-that equipment was intended for tailgating-type events at what is currently called Bank of America Stadium, in Charlotte, NC, which is where the NFL Carolina Panthers play (as well as various college bowls). The entire collection of rolling stock there disappeared a number of years ago, and there's barely a trace of anything rail-related left in that area.

The current Google maps satellite view shows a caboose and passenger car (presumably GN BN B1)behind "Extravaganza Depot Banquet" at 1610 North Tryon in CHarlotte. This is near the Charlotte Amtrak Station. This is the address of the business from the website PMC linked to.
I too thought this car might be part of the equipment that was once off Cedar Street near the stadium, as John D mentioned. However, if it ever was there in the past, it is at a different location now.

I looked at "eXtravaganza Events & Props" website today, which has 2017 in the footer, so is a current updated listing, as having Pullman built rail car available as banquet/event venu.

Hmmmm........ Cedar Street yard was obliterated by the stadium, and the stub end of the P&N stops short now - nothing has been there for some time now. Next time I'm in NoDa, I'll check out that location on North Tryon.
