I'm in need of the basic erection drawing for the CPR G5 steam locomotive. Where would I would I find such? Or even start looking?

Cheers

Exporail has recently unearthed drawings of this class for a live steamer. Try Exporail.

National Archives of Canada in Ottawa has a large number of CPR steam power drawings. Each class of locomotive has a master drawing list and the Archives can supply that. About 85% of the drawings on the list are available. I went through this process about 27 years ago. Not sure what the current situation might be, for obtaining copies.

I know Exporail has the archives of MLW. I'm not sure about CLC or the CPR Angus shops. I'd try either Exporail or the Canada Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa.

'airbusguy' are you with the Prairie Dog Central? What's the latest on those G5 you have there? I heard recently the owner has put them up for sale again.

The Canadian Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa definitely has them, (they have 1201 as well). They used to do quite a trade reproducing their collection of CPR drawings for model engineers, and I know of one local fellow who started a G5 project with drawings from Ottawa. I'm not sure what the current situation is but in the past I've found their curators very helpful, even digging out some very obscure drawings for me.
