Shortly after receiving my first (and last) shipment of Green Velvet soda grease, I visit their website http://steamenginelube.com/ to find that they have gone out of business. Just yesterday I was filling the 58's side rods with the 460 soda grease thinking how well I liked it and that I should order more. Now I guess it is back to square one to find a replacement semi hard side rod grease.

Not gone out of business, but moved to Durango. Bill Petitjean has been looking to retire for some time.

I was talking to Bill just the other day and he said the grease is not currently available, which is different than being discontinued or going out of business. He has not shut down the business but no longer has a warehouse/manufacturing plant in Carnation. Restating, he has not gone out of business. So stay tuned.

Is there a reason to ignore the part where he says that all Green Velvet products will continue to be offered through Brennan, and then says "Give Charlie Brennan and his staff a call at 970-247-3054"?

If there is some transient problem with making up new batches of grease I expect they would tell you.

From their website:

"Most of the Green Velvet oils will continue to be manufactured by a contract blender in California and will be available in 5 gallon pails and 55 gallon drums from our main distributor, Brennan Oil Company in Durango, Colorado"

Doesn't say anything about the grease.

Steam Services of America provides two types of hard grease to the steam industry. One for rods and a second grease for cellars. Go to http://www.steamservicesofamerica.com for contact information.

Rick, call Charlie Brennan and ask in detail about this grease.

If no one is going to manufacture it, I suggest we ask Mr. Petitjean if he'll make some part of the formula public domain or sell rights just to the grease. (I'd also ask the same about the discontinued chelesics, as I think their time is going to come...)

We are currently negotiating licensing agreements with an interested party in Wisconsin to start up a new bottling and grease making operation in the Midwest where a substantial market exists for Green Velvet oils in the antique engine communities.
