Does anyone know the history of the "Rancho" series coaches on the Fillmore & Western? Their website says they are former C&S cars and were purchased from the Tarantula Train. Are these three cars the same three coaches that were owned by the Trinity Valley Railfan Club in the 1970's? That being said, are two of the cars former C&S 551 and 553 or are they other coaches of the standard Burlington/C&S/FW&D type?

I'm trying to get their entry in my preservation index straightened out, so
any clarifications or commentary is much appreciated!

They are indeed the former Colorado & Southern heavyweight coaches (551, 553, et al), BUT Tarantula Train never owned them. Trinity Valley acquired them directly from C&S in 1970, using them on a number of area railfan specials. They were sold to Fillmore & Western in 1998, after anticipated use of the equipment on the Tarantula Train operation failed to materialize.

Awesome! Thanks!

The next question then would be what are the original numbers for each car? Which car is which?

Hello. I am a member of the Santa Clarita Valley RR Society, and volunteer as a car attendant on these coaches. I am at the yard about once a week working on our 23 ton GE switcher.
Where would I look to find the original numbers?

Sometimes the trucks have numbers stamped on the frames, however that's not always the most conclusive method as they get repainted or get switched around at times.
