Klarr Locomotive Industries LLC a new group has just bought CVR 3014, an ex-DRGW GP30. They are bringing it to Utah with a goal of leasing it to the Broken Arrow salt plant in Flux (Grantsville Utah), while in the mean time preparing a permanent home for the GP30 in preservation. If possible the group is looking into also acquiring sister locomotive CVR 3004 for a similar purpose if fundraising can be made.

This news was just broken on Utah Rail Enthusiasts on Facebook by Derrick Klarr, one of the leaders of the new group.

How long will it work at the Broken Arrow salt plant? I know I quite enjoy "working" preserved locos like the one that the ACLHS sold to Conrad Yelvington in ACL paint.

No idea how long it will be there yet. Sort of a "as long as its needed and used" type of deal from what I understand. This isn't the first time Broken Arrow has done this, they took a diesel from the NRHS and used it there until the unit was retired and sent to the Utah State Railroad Museum.

Ok, what is "CVR"? Cuyahoga Valley Railway?

CVR= Cimarron Valley Railroad

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is CVSR.

I could not help but take notice of the intended location for the locomotive's lease. To a salt plant. I would think that accumulated time there would accelerate metal deterioration.

Ok, thanks. Cimarron Valley Railroad. Where is it located? Is it a common-carrier shortline? A tourist line? A non-profit museum? A locomotive leasing company?

Please don't assume that most people automatically know what you're talking about, when you simply give cryptic initials or abbreviations. Certain operations have name recognition: "Strasburg". "Spencer/NCTM". "Steamtown". "Cumbres & Toltec". "CVR" does not.

The old journalism standard of the Five Ws should apply: Who, what, where, when, why.

Broken Arrow has been very friendly to preservation in the past. Ex-Utah Railway nee-ATSF Alco RSD-15 401 was the product of one of their endeavors in which a locomotive owned by a preservation group (NRHS) was leased to them to recoup the cost of purchase, then donated to a museum (the Utah State Railroad Museum). The 401 needs paint but it doesn't appear to have any more physical deterioration than 40 years without new paint will cause.
