Last May the Pacific Northwest railroad Museum announced plans to move a Pullman car off Bainbridge Island, ( I Think) to the museum.

Has anyone heard anything?

ted66 - I think this is the car you are referring to. The last I saw about this was on their website blog back in November:

"Monday, November 27, 2017 - Parlor car 1799. Parlor cars were extra fare cars on passenger trains that catered to the needs of the more affluent. 1799 operated between Seattle and Yakima on through trains. This former Northern Pacific Railway parlor car is located on an island in Puget Sound, and is included on the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation’s Most Endangered Places list. The owners have offered the car as a donation provided it is removed from the site. The project is ready to proceed pending receipt of development permits, which is expected to occur early in 2018. Support is being directed towards the cost of crane, barge and trucking fees."

The move is imminent!

The 1901-built Pullman Parlor car 1799 should be moving from the island in Puget Sound shortly. The donors have received their development permits and the railcar has been cleared to move. Now it is just a choreographic exercise to get all the prerequisites in place.

The car will come off the island on a barge as it was deemed too risky to move it up the steep slope above the car to reach the island ferry. The shelter that is protecting the car has to be removed first, then the utilities have to be disconnected. Doorways were cut in the side of the car so it could be used as a cottage these last 75 or so years, so those openings will have to be blocked in. Yet the interior remains largely intact and sound in this former Northern Pacific Railway wood passenger car. This is a truly remarkable find!

This is a costly undertaking and support in any amount is appreciated. Many have already contributed, and a few more generous supporters will make this a reality! Please consider supporting this project in this year's Give Big day of giving on May 9th: https://www.givebigseattle.org/northwest-railway-museum
