The Wiscasset, Waterville, and Farmington Railway Museum is pleased to announce that it has received $11,100 in grants for work related to the installation of Trout Brook Bridge. The grants, which were announced days apart, are administered by the Emery Rail Heritage Trust and the Mystic Valley Railway Society.

The WW&F is grateful for the support of these organizations; the W. Russell Rylko Memorial Award (administered by the MVRS) granted $6100 toward the project, while the John H. Emery Memorial Award (administered by the ERHT) granted $5000. These awards total $11,100 and will be used for the placement and site needs for the bridge project.

The bridge that will enable the reinstated railway to cross Trout Brook is a historic "boxed pony" bridge built in 1918 to cross Moose Brook on the Boston and Maine Railroad's Berlin Branch in Gorham, New Hampshire. It is one of five Howe boxed (covered) pony truss bridges remaining in North America.

Trout Brook Bridge is an integral part of the Railway's 'Mountain Extension' which will reinstate rail service nearly one mile northward from the current end of track at Top of Mountain to a new stop adjacent to Midcoast Conservancy's Trout Brook Preserve. Thanks to both ERHT and MVRS for their support which will enable the WW&F to move forward on this exciting project.

Thanks also to the various members of the grant writing team who put these applications together. Their "behind the scenes" grant writing work is invaluable in making these grants attainable.

The WW&F would also like to offer our congratulations to the other grant recipients in New England and further afield. Together we work for a brighter future for railway preservation in North America. Thank you all for your great work.
