Does anyone here have experience with this type of driving box? If so, I have a few questions for you!

The plan here is to pull out the oil cellars and inspect the journals. At a cursory glance, it would seem that the oil cellar is only retained by the two large set screws, and once you back those off you should be able to pull the cellar out. Does this sound about right, or is there more to it?

Before I start taking it apart, I'd like to know what is in the cellars, and recommendations on proper lubricants.

And of course the big question is, can these cellars be removed in situ on a locomotive, or would other parts need to be removed in order to gain access?

Of course, any drawings, maintenance instructions etc. would be very welcome!

I'd say that you are on the right track.

That box now has an Armstrong oiler in the cellar.

Ok, so these bearings are much like plain bearings on rolling stock, in that they use cotton waste pushed up against the journal.

I'm guessing then that they would use the same oil as on rolling stock?
