Maybe some of the cars moving from Council Bluffs will serve as stationary hospitality cars. Or to transport/house crew/staff people coming out of Omaha.

We'll know for sure on Thursday.

ABC news states “Bush, an admirer of trains, has had a special one with a glass viewing car designed to carry his remains to internment”
Does this mean some arrangement where the coffin will be visible? Or is it referring to the dome cars in the consist?

I suspect it's ignorant reporting and is in reference to the vista domes.

I doubt it's a dome, given the challenge of getting the casket into proper position etc.

Wonder if it's the car that was adapted to have auditorium type seating that sometimes is used at the rear of the train?

Stay tuned.

Even if you could find a way to get it up into the dome, that's really not very visible trackside.

Possibly a modified theater car, as you suggest. If they had it on the tail end, it could both be visible, and also reduce the risk of people who will naturally try to get closer for a better look. At least at that point, the train is past them. Presumably they'll not run anything else on the line for a while after as it's no doubt going to be a zoo.

A good friend went by the Westfield facility yesterday and 4141 and a simple yellow unit were coupled to the 13 car funeral train that is listed on the UP press release. 1943 (the armed services unit) heads up a second train parked near the funeral train that apparently is made up of the other cars brought down from Omaha or Council Bluffs.

The Council Bluffs (the flag painted baggage car) will be used to transport the coffin, and they have already built steps and a platform next to one of the baggage doors.

I will be going by there tomorrow and can attempt to verify what I can from the adjacent toll road.

4141 and the funeral train train were parked as anticipated. From the toll road, it looked as if two very clean yellow units were on the second train. Could not see if 1943 was there or not from the toll road.

Trains has been told that the funeral procession will include two separate trains. The first, headed by Union Pacific No. 1943, the railroad’s veteran’s unit, will carry non-family participants in the interment ceremony. The second will carry the former president’s remains and his immediate family members. It will be pulled by Union Pacific No. 4141, a SD70ACe that in 2005 was renumbered to commemorate Bush's term and painted in a scheme inspired by Air Force One.

The rare chance to see a presidential funeral train will draw many railroad photographers and history buffs to Central Texas. Unfortunately, the train’s route is not ideal for pacing the train or catching it at more than one location: Much of the route is inaccessible from public roads or blocked from view by thick forests, and the narrow roads and heightened security will compound event traffic. Trains recommends staking one location out early Thursday, and waiting until the train passes, rather than trying to travel to multiple locations.

The train is scheduled to depart Spring, at the Westlake automotive facility on the north side of Houston, at 1 p.m. and arrive in College Station at 3:25 p.m.

"The Council Bluffs (the flag painted baggage car) will be used to transport the coffin"

The news was correct to some extent. One set of the baggage car doors were replaced with glass to allow for viewing of the casket en route. Looks very nice, well done UP.

If anyone was watching at 4:01 PM Eastern time the train hit a dog that ran out in front of the train.
