Most of that passenger equipment pricing ought to be deemed "optimistic" !

Wow. Those are some steep, steep prices. 18 hasn't run in his many years? Are there really any market comps to justify that $500k+ price tag? I think not. If she had that kind of income generating potential, they never have shut down the steam in the first place.

I wish Ed nothing but success but must say that those prices are totally unrealistic and no where near what that equipment will bring in the final analysis.

My WAG is that at auction most of those pieces will fetch somewhere between 10%-20% of the prices listed.

Time will tell.

Sounds like the Rio Grande Scenic is also on the chopping block

Sure. Age of Steam has paid big bucks for steam locomotives. That makes everyone feel they are worth more

It certainly does sound like the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad is about to go belly up. It's a very nice train ride but tickets have always been too expensive. Sounds like they are selling all their F units on the property. Last year I did ask them why they stopped running the F unit on the excursion trains and they said it was because sparks would sometimes come out the stack and start fires. When I asked them why they stopped running the #18 they said it was because it was hard to steam at high altitudes.

Is the Mount Hood railroad closing? That would be quite surprising if that is the case. I have rode that train several times and the trains were always packed to capacity.

I'd read that they owe rather a lot in unpaid taxes to one of the local authorities (either the Town or the County) and their property was under threat of siezure as a result......

As I am sure many of you are aware, Ozark is notorious for ridiculously overpricing equipment offered for sale. Ed Ellis himself may even laugh at the prices being asked.

My understanding from industry contacts is that there is already local interest in the Mount Hood, and was before all of this came out. And, yes, there are local governments holding the bag for unpaid taxes at the Mount Hood.

This unfortunate event was a long time coming. My biggest concern will be that while Ed had the best of intentions, much of this equipment could wind up scrapped. I've lurked here for a long time, and it just seems to me the handful of well-funded organizations out there have taken on pretty much all they can. And this is a significant fleet of historical equipment that has been leveraged to the hilt, with a slew of unpaid creditors looking to recoup at least a fraction of their investment.

Not good!

The IPH GP40FH-2 fleet also seems to be up for grabs:

Hey you guys have not gotten the memo: This is not "Ed" or "Ozark" setting the prices...this is because Iowa Pacific has gone into receivership. The lenders are trying to get their money back because "Ed" borrowed a lot of money that he cannot pay back.

Yes, but Ozark is setting their take (and it is always generous) on top of what Big Shoulders believes they will get for these cars. Good luck.
