Originally built as the “Point Richmond” by Pullman in May of 1926 it was converted to an office car at Southern Railway’s Hayne Shops in 1956. It was purchased by TVRM from a private owner and it will be returning to TVRM were it once served as the speaker’s platform during the dedication of our Tunnel Blvd bridge in 1977. The car was purchased, and is being moved, through the incredible generosity of several donors.


The car was last privately owned and had been stored at Gateway Rail Services near St. Louis.

Just curious why it was trucked instead of moved by rail. I'm not a facebook guy so didn't click on the link for the photos.

It was sold minus trucks.

Previous owner sold the trucks before the car. New trucks have been/are being procured elsewhere. Much of the brake system was also stripped when work to Amtrak certify the car was underway.

Previous owner sold the trucks?? They were relatively modern three-axle trucks. I'll bet TVRM will have a hard time finding a matching pair. Older sets are pretty common.

It is my understanding that TVRM has a pair of trucks ready for this car, and everything else to make it happy.

I trust that TVRM knows what they are doing.

You misread me. The issue isn't whether or not they know what they're doing, because most assuredly they do. The issue, or rather question, is whether or not they can find a set of modern 3-axle OSH trucks to replace those now missing. I'm sure there are lots of older 3-axle trucks to be found, and maybe those are what they'll use. I will be curious to see.

They have a lot of stored rolling stock, so they most likely have what they need on hand. I recall from my time there that they had a few spare three axel trucks and frames on hand-one of they was used to demonstrate the 125 ton wrecker during public events.

I have been following the National Heights Rail Car group on facebook for years, this is a sweat-equity project to restore a former B&O obs car. Around eight years ago toward the start of the project they replaced the axles on their trucks with roller bearings (photo in red primer from 2011). Then around two years ago they replaced the truck frames (truck in silver, 2017 photo), caption: "New cast pedestal truck frames with on-frame brake cylinders arrived at the yard today. These will allow most of the brake rigging to be removed from the bottom of the car to make space for other things." Anyone know why NS retired it for?

I've been thinking that she was perhaps due for a truck overhaul or some other expensive work and was deemed surplus after they inherited their portion of Conrail's fleet, but that's just a shot in the dark.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse here, but the pictures show ancient, obsolete trucks, one is even a bolted bolster truck from the '20's probably. The trucks which were on the NS business car were modern (1960's modern anyway) outside swing hanger cast trucks, probably GSC 62-UDO-11 6 wheelers. They are scarce and pricey when found. My point (long lost now) was the owner probably trying to make up for lost $ sold those pricey trucks to a PV owner wanting to upgrade. I don't have a picture. I'm sure there are pleanty of the old types around as there were lots of old passenger cars which were scrapped. Frankly, those old cast trucks look sorta goofy on the car.

I think it was monday morning when I was watching the TVRM webcam and saw this car going by the Grand Junction station between diesels 1829 and TAG 80. So it has went the length of TVRM's line for a test I guess.
