I understand that this site wants people to offer their items here, but are there other sites where one can offer items for sale, either for the preservation community or even commercial railroad and industrial customers?

PM me if you don't want to post it here.

Thanks for any input provided!

The only other free site I can think of off the top of my head is discoverlivesteam.com. All the others I’m aware of are either paid listings or brokers. Both usually charge a commission or fee plus commission. A search for “used railroad equipment” will turn up quite a few.

Seems to me you’ll get the word out to the tourist and preservation communities a little further here, not only to active members but there are a lots of lurkers here, too.

My two cents....

Previous posts haven't raised much interest, hence the desire to "expand my horizons".

Keep in mind that the tourist railway/museum community is pretty small in the grand scheme of things so buy/sell/trade is a long row to hoe time-wise until someone needs something and you happen to have it. Word does travel around albeit slowly. I’ve posted here, have a web page up, network with others and listed with a broker fully expecting that we weren’t going to have a large amount of inquires. But at least the word is out there and we do get occasional inquiries. Most have been either through RyPN or casual networking.

Your mileage may vary...

The website for Railswap.org is still up, but it has not been functional since 2018. It's unfortunate, as that used to be a more frequently used forum used by a variety of railroads, museums, collectors and hobbyists. It would be nice if someone could take it over and fix it up.

I’d consider it but I’d have to monetize it to make it pay for itself at the minimum. And dodge the spray of bullets emanating from my wife’s location.

Who retains ownership for it? It hasn't been taken over by web squatters, so someone must be paying the fees.

Domain name owner, admin, etc. is hidden behind a private registration service so no info there. The domain name expires on 6/22/2020, last update 2/8/2011. That’s likely when the domain name was last paid for. It’s hosted on Liquid Web servers but that tells you nothing other than where the site resides. If there truly has been no activity, I suppose you could call the number on the website if you were interested in the site and domain.

Edit... the Facebook page is still active with the same new listings updated today, as are on the website. So I don’t think Sterling Rail is defunct. They don’t seem to delete old listings often.

What is the Railswap.org Facebook page? I couldn't find one and it is not SterlingRail, that is a different company.

Duh. I shouldn't be trying to do two things at once. I somehow confused Railswap and Sterling. And the spellings aren't even close. Disregard my previous post. Again, DUH.

Railswap does not appear to be maintained. Sterling is alive and well.

Edit - The domain was renewed last November for one year.
