What are the chances that those valves are still in operation?

Some great slide rule engineering going on back then.

You only get one chance. After it's in and the water builds up behind the dam, there is no taking it out to "redo" it.

The original Kingsbury thrust bearing from 1912 is still in service at the Holtwood hydroelectric plant on the Susquehanna river in southern Pennsylvania.

Another "big one". A shaft for the Boston Elevated Railway from the December 1899 edition of Steam Engineering. 65,000 pounds!
