John Lewis has granted me permission to share his notes on 23 Ton Class B Climax CN 1057 (1910). Seven pages of typewritten notes complied in 2016 from notes and dimensions he made in 1971.

I would suggest you find a couple of good photos of a small Class B to assist you in understanding the notes although they are fairly comprehensive.

John saved all the drawings and Climax documents from Climax's Seattle, Washington affiliate in the early 1960's as they were ready to throw them out. They did throw out the wooden Patterns - John as a young man had no ability to take them or store them. Everyone interested in Climaxes owes a great debt to John Lewis.

I will post the 1921 dimensions for a Class B 23 Ton similar to those I posted on the Class A-12 and A-15 once I relocate the Climax table.

Note: The slant of the cylinders on 1551 is 23.5°. It is probable that many other Class B & C Climaxes shared this angle. 60 and 70 Ton for certain, and the Engine Frame F405R & F406L with the 23.5 degree were designed in 1914 for Walschaert Valve Gear from the same earlier design (I believe 1904) using Stephenson Valve Gear - my assumption since the same front frame cross member was used. Note on the rear Walschaert Valve Gear cross member drawing - F409. The front Cross Member was the same on both - F45.

During my search for the the table of Climax measurements of April 1921 (which I have not found), I found drawings of a CAB (1907) and combination Fuel & Water Bunker for a 25 Ton Class B Climax (1902). A list of Shafts dated 1923 notes only a 25 Ton Class B.

The limited measurements John D. Lewis indicate that the Cab & Bunker on 1057 are VERY similar if not identical.

I will develop some drawings if anyone is interested.

A drawing of a 23-25 Ton Climax based upon John D. Lewis' notes and the Climax drawings of the 25 Ton Cab and Bunker/Cistern.

Very preliminary but it makes clear that the cab in the photo is an after market creation.

The cab, trucks, drive train and one cylinder are reproductions. The man who salvaged it wanted to get it running and he did.

Updates to drawing of CN 1057 and drawings of the Cab & Cistern.

Last I am going to do as 1057 is not my particular interest.
