Hard to tell from the old EMD artwork what for green they were originally proposing for the FT's but neither of these representations actually look like what eventually ended up on them. It would be kind of wild if it was the Meadow/New Oliver Green and the Reading eventually came full-circle with that color. The first pic could be Woodfield or maybe even the Apple Green, who knows? LOL

Diamond T Dark Green, 93-20647, also appears to be Meadow Green but we'll see when my chips get here...

Something to remember. Most green pigment uses copper, an essential war material. RDG's FT's were built in February, 1945, when both the European and Pacific Theatres of WWII were operating at a high pace.

It could well be the FT's used substitute materials for the green stripes when built.

Going with a turquoise-like color such as the GMC Narva would certainly cut down on the green, Phil. Narva Green also seems like a fairly trendy color back then going by how many old GMC's I've been able to find originally painted in it. Narva looks good over black with the Kraft Yellow as well.

Narva Green on the Reading cabs actually lasted longer than I thought it did, at least up into the late fifties, and I'll get to that here soon.

My Acme Diamond T chips showed up yesterday. Dark Green compares very favorably to 5316 while 6202 lines up with Milori Green. CF's red color is the next darkest after 066H and the Aluminum chip makes an appearance with the LEMTU...

These little montages are fun to make up, plus I won't sweat all over my keyboard on this warm summer day by typing too much... LOL

93-72669-H is also known as International Canyon Red and, according to Encycolorpedia, is very close to the version of international orange used on the Golden Gate Bridge.

Just wow.

Another color close to Scarlet but a hair darker is Dodge Truck Toreador Red, 93-92144. This color is shown on the 1969 fleet chart which would match the timeline a bit better than that '50's International red... LOL

Also known as Dodge Truck Bright Red, it seems to appear slightly more orange than Scarlet as well...

The Tyco box most closely resembles Scarlet and Diamond Yellow, BTW.

Here is the snout of RDG SW-1001 #2601 along with a rather orange-looking Bright Red Dodge as well as the obligatory chip scan. I might have to spend a little more time on this one in the future but I can tell you guys right now that the Chrysler Hemi Orange, another later fleet color, is way too orange. LOL

Might as well throw in a more orange-looking Western Maryland picture also...

Just an apparently poor joke, Pete. When you get into the late sixties and seventies, some of these newer fleet colors got pretty bright. Loud also, so you may need ear plugs as well.

Here is a set of DuPont fleet chip sheets from the either the mid-to-late seventies or early eighties I downloaded off eBay. Definitely a trend toward lighter and brighter orange-reds and reds at the time. 5248 Yellow, 2622 Scarlet, 2063 Blue, and 2015 Green are still there, however, as well as quite a few others...

So anyway, I wanted to post this pic of F-7 #282 in Narva Green separately just because it actually does appear to be fairly accurate colorwise, more so than most from the era...
