 Post subject: Request for Proposals, Chehalis Steam Locomotive Boiler Work

Request for Proposals

The Chehalis and Centralia Railroad & Museum requests proposals for completion of the 1472-day inspection on locomotive 15, a 1916 Baldwin built 90 ton 2-8-2. Scope of work to include but not limited to:

1. Visual inspection of pressure vessel to determine other conditions necessary to address during 1472 inspection
2. Completion of fit up and installation of Firebox Door Sheet
3. Fabrication and Installation of ASME section one style firebox door including mud ring rivets and staybolts
4. Fabrication and Installation lower 1/3rd firebox side sheets and lower rear tubesheet including mud ring rivets and staybolts
5. Fabrication and Installation of new dry pipe, reinstallation of superheater header
6. Preparation of Tubesheets and Installation of tubes and Flues

Work to be conducted mainly on site in Chehalis, WA. Contractor must be willing to work in a team environment and take direction from Project Manager. Appropriate volunteer help will be provided to assist contractor on tasks requiring assistance. All welding and boiler work to be conducted in accordance with historic accepted Railroad practice or Nationally accepted standard. All work must comply with Federal Railroad Administration rules and guidelines applicable to steam locomotives. Additional tasks may include:

1. Inspection, repair/replace, install superheater units
2. Washout plug inspection, repair/replace, and installation
3. Participation in UT grid layout and data collection
4. Boiler stud replacement

Proposers must demonstrate the resources, skills, tools, and capability required to complete these tasks. Any subcontracting must be approved by project manager. Include in your written proposal the following in the order listed:

1. Letter of acknowledgement including name, signature and contact information
2. Curriculum Vitae listing relevant experience and references
3. Detailed estimate of hours and costs associated with the above scope of work
4. Timeline for availability and project completion timeline with benchmarks
