I'm not sure if they will move the units at either so it might be worth asking, their used fleet has some ex-Santa Fe GP-7s that might be of interest, and I believe there are (or were) some inoperative units not on the list still at Silvis (the ex-Rock Island main shop):

Edit: Here is a drone video from earlier this year that shows most of what is at Silvis, two Metra E-9s are noteworthy:

Would they have room for even a fraction of what's at the closing locations? Seems like the majority has a date with the scrapper.

What is the silver thing at upper right near the beginning of the Silvis drone video?

When I first saw it I thought it was something shrink wrapped, but it looks like some type of DMU to me, I thought all the Turboliners were cut up but that is sort of what it looks like.

According to a June 5 post on the Loconotes list, "At least 1/4 of the units at Silvis have been marked for scrap or have already been scrapped, including WC 2500."

Aside from two gensets, I believe the newest units are the dozen or so ex-LMX 4-axle GE's from the 1980s. I would bet that none of the other GE's will make it out alive, and perhaps not even the LMX units.

This is just the beginning of the consolidations and reductions by locomotive rebuilders. There is vastly excessive core inventory and shop capacity in the locomotive rebuilding business during the current business slowdown.

The Lebanon Mason & Monroe Railroad, a tourist line on a city-owned ex-PRR secondary in southwestern Ohio, says they have "entered into a purchase agreement with National Railway Equipment Co to preserve ex-Chessie GP30 #6955" (which you can see in the video) and are trying to raise the money to move it. https://www.facebook.com/savethechessie ... f=mentions

The Silvis Shop is still an impressive facility. Unfortunately it will probably end up being replaced by a distribution facility for a truck line or a parcel delivery service.

Hi,

Does anyone know if the CNR and CPR F units are still available?

Thanks.

At the start of the video, I’m pretty sure everything to the right of that road is IAIS property. That road leads to the NRE Silvis business office. That spot is also close to where IAIS has a small freight car shop and stores it’s business cars. I don’t know what’s under the tarp, but I’d bet it’s not something that belongs to NRE. This end of NRE Silvis isn’t connected to the outside railroad world.

Surprised to see some GE B-units. Are those U Boats or are they from the later Dash series?

Besides the Metra E unit, what are some of the rarest locomotives there?

It looks like a lot if not all of the GE four-axle units are these, the LMX units, which was a scheme of BN to lease units from GE at a lower price (but with expensive paperwork issues), at about the same time they were doing "power by the hour" with SD60s from Oakway: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GE_B39-8

Nee-BN B30-7A(B) units as I recall.

Didn't they have a few MLW HR616 units left, as well?

All scrapped some time back, NRE evidently had zero interest in preserving any of these historic units despite storing them 20+ years.
