So if tubes and flues are in, the clock is ticking, yes?
It would be wonderful to see 2102 on freight in covid complication restrain passenger service!

Great news!
Wasn't this supposed to happen New Year's Eve? Or, was it to be Apr. 1?

Beautiful locomotive even stripped down. That's great news.

I wanted to make that joke but I didn’t dare! Thank you :) haha

If I may... is #425’s time getting close? Just wondering if we have a small window for potentially 2 steam locomotives on that line... or that could happen for a few years still?

I think 425 was restored in 2007. So one, maybe two more years i think.

After that, I guess it just depends on how much work is needed to be done on 425 that decides if/when it’s returned to service. But I don’t think there’s any hurry in doing that if 2102 is operating.

3 steam locomotives* if you count fellow anthracite burner CNJ 113.

It will be nice to see an engine running on its original home road, possibly pulling one of the commodities it was built to pull.

Hopefully the world gets back to normal in time for that to happen, even if it’s just a photo charter. Hint hint - Take my money now Pete Lerro!

Don't forget their CPR ten-wheeler, as well.

I believe that the CP 1098 was cosmetically restored as an outdoor display by the Reading & Northern in Reading, PA. It is painted as Reading & Northern #225. It is blue, just like the 425. While it is possible that it could be resurrected at some point, I don't believe there are any current plans to make it operational.

49CFR part 230.17 includes this:
Quote:
... In the case of a new locomotive or a locomotive being brought out of retirement, the initial 15 year period shall begin on the day that the locomotive is placed in service or 365 calendar days after the first flue tube is installed in the locomotive, whichever comes first. ...

I don't know if she would be considered being brought out of retirement. We can let others hop on that answer............mld

Given that both the ten wheeler and the 425 are painted blue, that begs a silly question

When are we seeing 2102 in blue?

I kid I kid.
