A number of railway museums and tourist RR's have now completed their second Day Out With Thomas event. We hosted a successful event this year and were able to increase 2002's attendance by about 500 people. However some changes in the way Thomas's keepers do business made the event a lot more work to host. For instance, approval of most marketing material typically took over 2 weeks, an eternity in the marketing world. Regardless, though, we were still able to sell more tickets than last year and went away pretty happy.

If you hosted an event this year, what were your experiences? What new issues came up for you this year? Did you meet attendance projections? Do you plan to host an event next year? If so, what kind of changes are you hoping to make?

Orange Empire just finished its second "Day out with Thomas" event. Dates were No. 8, 9, 11(Veterans Day), 14, 15 and 16. The figures are not yet complete; but, I do have some comments.

It appears we are down from last year with less trains sold out in advance than last year. We did have a good number of walkup sales during the second weekend. Report is that the average sale at our Thomas retail sales site was higher than last year.

We had an interesting problem that involved TicketWeb.com that handled the advance sales per the Thomas folks requirement. There was an other Thomas event with the same dates in Florida on the Floirda Gulf Coast at Parish, Florida. It appears that on some phone orders to TicketWeb there as confusion between Perris and Parish and ticket orders were booked to the wrong site.

We are currently considering doing the Thomas event next year.
