A very cute rebuild of a once-ugly 0-4-0T saddletanker:

Speaking of Disney, the wife and I joined our daughters family (and four grandkids) last week in Florida where we went to Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park. They have a train ride out to their research center hauled by a "African style" 2-4-2T (I think!) The engine had a plate stating it was built by Beyer Peacock in 1926, but the engine is NOT steam, but apparently diesel. My question is, is this the "genuine article" re-engineered by Disney with a diesel engine and modern controls? OR, is it a complete reproduction from the ground up?

Thanks!

Les

Built new by Severn-Lamb in the UK. They're also in the steam business and can build you a new narrow-gauge 4-4-0 (based on the c.1960s Harpur design) for around $1M...

Thanks Ed. BTW, is there a "back up" locomotive for this operation?

If memory serves, there's three of them. Some concept art can be found in Michael Broggie's Walt Disney's Railroad Story (1997).
