Is the focus on this project a new development? I was there two months ago and the car appeared to be in a state of suspended restoration, with no significant work underway at the time according to my guide.

Frank & Sloan,

As our website correctly states, Car 60's restoration is an ongoing multi-year project for the Rochester Chapter NRHS and its Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum. The actual restoration as far as weekly progress has been slowed greatly in recent months due to some capital improvement projects going on at the museum which are of higher priority. For example, we recently installed a three track yard to support our restoration shop in which Car 60 resides. Our volunteers are now working hard on another siding installation project to house and support our matched seven car Budd stainless steel passenger car set comprised of six coaches and one RPO from the New York Central's 1941 'Empire State Express'. Our train set is currently stored off of our property, and we are working hard on the siding to be able to get all of our equipment centralized at our museum site. The third piece of this capital improvement program is to finalize the track inside of our restoration shop, install the concrete floor and install the inspection pit in the shop which will greatly increase our restoration capability.

With that said, we hope to restart Car 60's restoration soon if progress on our other priorities continues. For now, the car is safe inside of our restoration shop. Like many projects, we have some funding in place for its restoration so we can continue our work on the car, but more is always needed and always makes the process easier. It remains our goal to restore 60 to service where we can operate under the trolley wire which hangs over a portion of the demonstration railroad we share with the New York Museum of Transportation. The NYMT is already running their two ex-P&W Strafford cars every Sunday under wire for our visitors.

As with any museum, we welcome donations and have an ongoing capital fund drive underway: http://www.rochnrhs.org/supportus/. We also welcome donations directed solely are Car 60 as well. Finally, new volunteers are always welcome to join us. We volunteer every Tuesday evening and every Saturday year-round!

Please let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for the interest.

Regards,
Chris Hauf
