That makes me wonder what they'll do with the remnants of the original boiler. I could only hope if they cut it up, they'll sell pieces of the scrap. I'd LOVE to have a small piece of what is surely the most well-known steam locomotive in the US!

That is the perfect boiler for a sectioned interpretative display; small, but still recognizable as a locomotive. I hope CSRM would consider something along those lines. Possibly selling the rest, or giving little swatches to donors to the project.

That wouldn’t by chance be a lap seam boiler, would it? Or a lap seam with the extra welt added to satisfy the ICC at some distance date in the past. If so, it definitely should be saved for display, as it would illustrate the evolving technology.
