Very astute as usual TJ. We have no national cojesive plan for mainline steam. Why spend millions to get them all dressed up if there is no place for them to go?

Investment in smaller locomotives for use on tourist and museum operations would certainly pay off more in terms of passenger interactive experiences and each of those is a potential convert to the cause.

Despite its many, many other issues, here's where Steamtown shines: 13 miles of real-life jointed rail main on which big engines can strut their stuff, with trips up to 40 miles available for charters and special events. All this, plus a roundhouse and backshop to come home to at night. The elements are there--better and more visionary management is all that lacks.
