I recall the Arcade and Attica in New York used to have an old coach used by President Cleveland on his honeymoon. I'm not sure if it is still there. Perhaps someone here knows.

The car that President Warren G. Harding used on his last trip to San Francisco, and which brought his body back to Washington and home to Marion, Ohio for burial is preserved at the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, GA, north of Atlanta.

On the narrow gauge side, don't forget the East Broad Top's "Orbisonia" reportedly also used by President Grover Cleveland on one of his fishing trips.

Since noone else has mentioned it, I guess I will. Several of the Illinois Central Executive Fleet still survive. I don't know all of the numbers of them though. CN/IC owns former #1, the P&L owns one, there is one being used as a residence in Marion, Ill, Monticello Rwy M has one, there was one in Mississippi being used as a residence, etc.....

There is an NC & St L business car for sale as well as an L&N one. There is a Frisco Business car running around that was sold by Ill. Transit a while back. As well as a few more that I have run across for sale, but can't remember.

Years ago, as a youngster during a family trip, I was taking pictures of the SP business car, engine, and the WP cars at Harrison Park in Oakland. The caretaker then using the business car invited us into the car and told us that the Car had carried Harding on the southbound trip to San Francisco just before his death. [There is a picture of Harding getting off of a business car in Beebe's SP&CP book.] This car is now at the Pacific Locomotive Association. The car is now known as 121 - WESTERN, but in the 1920s it was known as WILDWOOD. At the time of Hardings trip this car was probably the top line car of the SP as it was before the steel cars came in the 1920s. The car was originally built as CI&L 200 in 1904 and the SP bought the car in 1906 and renamed it WILDWOOD; in 1939 the car became WESTERN.

The Georgia Northern #100 parlor car used at one time by the railroad's President. It was later owned by Lucius Beebe as a private car, I think. I am not sure of the difference. Maybe he used one at work and the other on vacation?

SAL "Norfolk" is at The South Carolina Railroad Museum. Built by the Portsmouth Shops in 1911 as a wood car, wrapped with steel right after WWII. The interior has suffered some water damage due to a leaky roof but is essentially intact. I'm currently working on slapping a coat of paint on the old girl. This work has temporarily stalled due to problems with the Museum's air compressor and other projects of more pressing import. The car is not fit to use but is open to the public for tours whenever the Museum is open.

In the late 1960's, a former EJ&E Business Car was used on the Everett Railroad excursion train. It was privately owned and left the property about the time the steam train was sold. Anybody know what happened to it?

Mr. Walker:

Which Pullman order was this? There is NO lot or plan number for said #98. I have personally inspected all of the private and business car contracts and records for such at the Newberry Library of Chicago and all relevent records concerning drawing lists and specs at Illinois Railway Museum. Mr. Garrott will verify this as he was with me. Although I was primarily looking for information related to the former NYC 301, I took the time to search for records of such an order and found none. I thought perhaps the Beebe list in the authoritative text on the matter was in error, but it is correct concerning the lack of order of a B&O 98. There is a B&O 99(two, in fact) that were ordered in the general time frame for heavyweight steel cars, but no 98. The built-up or fabricated nature of the end sills and platforms indicate construction later than a 1917 car ordered in 1916, but does not altogether preclude such. That was about the time that cast ends were going out of fashion, but they certainly were used on NYC 301. There was a 1916 lot and plan for the 99 which was delivered in 1917 and a 1922 lot number with no plan or cars designated (perhaps that was the two car order, but memory serves that this was not the case). Not being familiar with B&O office car history, I could not say whether the B&O renumbered any of its cars. However, the prospect seems highly likely. B&O did build several of its own office cars in its own shop, utilizing other cars as starting points (N&W also did this, as well as Southern and likely many other roads). However, the current 98 was not built as such in 1916 or 1917 by Pullman, period. Perhaps the 99 became the 98, but beyond that, the B&O historians will have to fill in the rest of the story.
