The Western Railway Museum is located in one of five areas in California designated as "Wind Resource Areas". Winter a year ago, those winds blew a door off a wooden boxcar. It was brought into the shop to rehang the door.

A problem arose, however -- the wood on which to hang the door was rotted out. Further, the wood behind that had issues. And the wood behind... well, you can guess where this story is going.

The floor was re-decked. The doors were re-framed, and the doors were completely reconstructed. Sides were replaced, except on the ends and the sides near the ends. A lot of metalwork was done on the roof.

Nine months later:

For the benefit of those not aware, "CCT" is the Central California Traction Co., a former electrified railway, today truncated to a switching operation in Stockton, California:

Yes, indeed the Shop did a great job on that car. The museum has a good collection of Interurban freight cars; the CCT is the Central California Traction.

The third picture shows our new Jenson Memorial Car Barn which where the car is now displayed.

I was giving a tour through there recently and a got
an amazing question. Person said," Since these are electric cars where do you plug in the 110 volts?

A couple of other points about CCT 3001:

During its restoration, the brakes were converted back to Type K.

The car has marker light brackets on each corner.

One of the big problems was finding good clear wood to use for repairs. We had to purchase some new clear tongue and groove Douglas-fir boards for siding - each board cost about twenty dollars. Fortunately we had some large clear timbers for structural repairs.

The team which worked on this project really did a great job. We were seriously considering scrapping the car since the damage was so extensive.

The website photos list a photo credit, but how about the names of the 4 fine gentlemen in photo?

They deserves much applause, for keeping the glass half full!
