 Post subject: Dangerous Commercial URGENT!
PostPosted: Fri Apr 19, 2002 12:36 am

Hi Everyone,

Just saw a commercial that troubles me deeply. It was for the Cadillac Escalade and showed the vehicle running between two locomotives at a grade crossing. Isn't this what all of us have been trying to stop for the sake of public safety? Now Cadillac is promoting their cars using a stunt like this. For the sake of all we are trying to preserve, can someone out there give me the contact number for Cadillac's corporate advertising department before someone trys a stupid fool thing like this and gets mashed?

Not to play Devil's Advocate, but in the commercial its clear that both trains are STOPPED as if they're waiting for the Cadillac to come through (the pitch is that the Cadillac is so important that trains stop to wait for it) and proceeding only after it has passed.

I may be going out on a limb in 2002, but anyone who thinks that trains will ACTUALLY stop and wait for their Cadillac Suburban (which is all the Escalade is, a Suburban with alot of chrome and fake wook, for 2X the price), they deserve what they get at the grade crossing.

You may be right, Wowak, but you know there's plenty of damn fools out there who would try just such idiocy with a moving train or even one that's stopped momentarily. After all, just because a train or just a locomotive is presently stopped, does not mean it will remain that way.

Angie,

I am all for railroad preservation. Idiot preservation is another field. As a supporter of Darwinism, I'll stick to saving the trains.

Let the others earn their fate.

Rob,

While it may be tempting to leave idiots to their fate, they can kill lots of innocents and the consequences may be far reaching.

The City of New Orleans wreck was caused by a truck driver who drove through clearly operating signals. He survived, a lot of passengers and crew didn't. Now, CN is having to pony up a $50 million dollar settlement, even though it wasn't their fault. The result? Cancellation of this year's steam program on the former WC lines, because CN now requires a $50 million insurance policy.

So, lets not go encouraging idiots!

Michael
