I'm tring to find out if there is a book that the movie "unstoppables" is based upon.

Any Ideas? the Web has far too much info and I thought someone in your group might be able to narrow this down for me.

I hired out on CSX at the Columbus, OH terminal with the conductor of the engine that caught the 8888. Also, after the incident I spent 2 hours stuck on the Parsons Yard turntable with the engineer who operated the chase engine and of course he told me the ENTIRE story!

The Readers Digest version of the chase is somewhat embellished, but is much much closer to reality than the abomination that is about to hit the theaters.

The incident in the movie is at least somewhat loosely based upon an actual "runaway" event in Ohio on CSX. The movie was filmed mostly on parts of the former PRR Lock Haven, Pa.-Buffalo, NY and -Lock Haven-Tyrone, Pa. lines, using leased ex-CN locos repainted for the movie. If your life depends on knowing about this movie, see the Buffalo Line Yahoo Group and search their archives for the past year or so.

Google "CSX 8888" for more info. In the real-life incident, word was relayed to police that the fuel cut-off valve was above the fuel tank, which resulted (as portrayed in the movie) in police officers trying valiantly to shoot at VERY close range the fuel tank filler cap, rather than the fuel cut-out button...................

In preservation news, actually related to this movie, a lot of the old PRR position light signals had to come down for the filming.

Luckily, they are now in a safe place awaiting restoration.
