Post subject: 1923 Shell Oil tank car *PIC*
PostPosted: Wed Jun 19, 2002 3:19 am

The Northern Pacific Railway Museum in Toppenish, WA, has a Shell Oil tank car, SCCX 715. This car was built by General American Tank Car (GATX) in September of 1923. Restoration is proceeding and we are searching for any information regarding original colors and markings on this car. We are also searching for a source for period Shell decals for interpretive signs for the car. Any help with our search for information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Doug Shearer

Doug:

What news of the 1364? The photos on the web site are a bit dated. Looking forward to seeing this S-4 under steam.

Thanks in advance.

Progress on the 1364 is slow but steady. Project director David George is working daily with volunteers helping mostly Thursdays and Saturdays. The valve cylinders were recently bored out approximately 3/32" to remove pitting. Most of the old corroded studs in the boiler have been removed and new ones are being turned and installed. The front end of the old tender frame was extensively damaged by corrostion and is being repaired. A new tender tank is under construction. The web site needs new photos (thanks for reminding me) and I will try to post more over the next week or two. David George still projects completion date in 2003.
