A couple of weeks ago I visited the EBT. The Gen. Manager allowed me and some of my friends to tour the roundhouse. I noticed the EBT #15 had the tubes out and the jacket off. They told me they were preparing to do a FRA 1472 inspection. They were going to start the Ultra-Sounding the next day. I was just curious to about the results of #15's testing. As for the #17, #16, #18 and #12, the jackets were on them. But the front ends were off #12 and #17. Are they going to be getting inspection as well? I assume the #14 will follow suit when the others are done?

Other than the engine questions. I have to say I was very impresses with EBT. I do hope they can keep operating in the future. It would be a shame to see such a good historical piece of american history just disappear.

Word is, so far so good on the 15. More likely that 14 will be next in line for the FRA Part 230 compliance work rather than 12 or 17.

I would assume that #15 would be running most of the season next year? I was hoping to return there and see it run next summer sometime. As for the #12 and #17. What is there operating status. Will they be allowed to run this fall for the spectacular.

Neither will be running this year, or for the indefinite future. #12 has wasting in the firebox sheets and needs some fairly major repair work there; #17 in recent years has had a lot of little things not quite happy with her (badly out of square, trouble with leaking tubes). Neither engine is a priority compared to getting the two most reliable and suitable engines (14 and 15) FRA Part 230 compliant.

Remember, the FRA compliance survey work is tres expensive, and Mr. K doesn't have an infinite amount of money to throw into engine repairs. The costs come more or less out of Mr. K's pocket, as the RR doesn't throw off enough cash from operations to fund that sort of thing out of internal revenue.
