The cab was cut down, then reassembled. They may have taken down part of the wall as well. The estimated rebuild cost of the locomotive is around 1 million. Back in the days of the NS steam program they had looked at getting the locomotive running. This information came straight from John Scott.

We got one of them, Port Huron & Northwestern #1, D.B. Harrington, 2-4-0 Porter. As a curator myself, I fully understand their reasoning on deaccessioning this to us. I can vouch for everything they deaccessioned (and I SURELY don't speak for HFM/GV), but considering I just got done with a Curatorial confrence there, I have to belive they had pretty good reasons for deaccessioning what they did. Two of the recreated Grand Trunk predecessor cars Ford had created in 1929 were sold at that time too, as they were considered recreations I believe. Beyond that, I don't know. By the way, GV is closed for a multi-million dollar re-do of their sewer system, as well as physical relocation of some buildings. Evidently the State of Michigan thought that raw sewage hitting the Rouge River was a little to historically accurate for their tastes ;-)

Fort Collins #26 (Original a Grand Rapids, Michigan car) is still there. There is a couple of early horse cars as well. Man, you guys are going to make me dig out the digital camera shots from a couple weeks back, aren't you?

It's a shame they aren't interested in the last of the "Ford" GE centercabs. A chance to show a customers influence on loco design, or maybe just another unique but worthless piece of equipment.

What is the current story of the Ford/GE unit? Do you have current pics?

Last info I had was that the unit was at Lake Shore in Buffalo and that they did not have any plans for it. I do not have any pictures. Anybody else out there care to chime in ??
