(please pass the word)

The Pacific Southwest Railway Museum is pleased to announce the “Engineer for a Day” program starting up at our Campo Railroad Museum site. This program will allow railfans the opportunity to climb onboard the right hand seat of a operating locomotive, be given an overview of how a locomotive works, and actually operate the locomotive under the guidance of the qualified Engineer. The locomotive will be the same one used for that day’s operations, usually a GP9, MRS-1 or a 80-ton switcher. The track operated upon will be in the Museum’s yard, but not the SD&A mainline.

This opportunity will be offered on a limited time basis, with reservations needed. Beginning on Tuesday, February 18th, and continuing every 3rd Tuesday of the month thereafter, Engineer opportunities will be available starting at 1:00 PM. in one hour blocks (1-2, 2-3, 3-4). The cost for one hour of instruction and operation is $100 for non-PSRM members and $75 for PSRM members (membership is only $30, so, for $5 more you can become a member). Anyone with a reservation is welcomed to show up at Campo and ride the train to Miller Creek for no additional charge. Cab rides for that train are also available for only an additional $20 Again, reservations are required for the cab rides.

Reservations are easy to make. Send an email to tickets@sdrm.org or call 619/390-9045.

Here’s the perfect opportunity for the railfan’s dream gift – a chance to run their own train. See you soon at Campo.

That sounds terrific! I live in southern California and had to go all the way to the W.P museum at Portola to run a GP-9 for an hour. It was a great experience and I am very glad I did it! I hope you get a lot of guest engineers! Maybe I will come down there (2 hours verses 11!) and see how your loco feels! Kimball
